yeah I realize my SAT scores are low for Brown but I’m hoping coming from Maine might give me some geographical leverage. Is acceptance a possibility with sub par SATs if I have stellar recs/essay?

I doubt you are gonig to get geographical leverage. take everyone’s advice and try to raise the scores instead of trying to through the back door

Yeah SATs would be my best bet but I already took them three times and I have a feeling I’ve done the best I can, also I don’t know if I will have another opportunity to take them. That’s why I’m wondering if my chances are completely shot because of my SATs or if there is a way to make up for it.

I would think Brown may not take SATs as seriously as other selective schools, at least I hope not. Well I’m going to apply ED and hope for the best. Does anyone know if they will contact me for an interview and if that will be able to swing things in my favor in any way?

dude one thing you want to know in the college application process: Do not assume things.

what you said: I would think Brown may not take SATs as seriously as other selective schools, at least I hope not.

People make false assumptions and do not make it.
Let’s put it this way: All the Ivy’s and good tech school take the SAT seriously. If they would not take it seriously, nobody would take the SAT.

And you have to contact them for an interview, they won’t come to you. They won’t do anything in the interview other than asking you questions about your high school grades, excurrics, passions, etc. Do the interview, but do not expect that to guarantee admission. Remember, a ton of overachievers and better people who have like perfect SAT’s or 2200’s and above are applying. Also to answer your question, the interviewer will not “Swing things in your way” unless you prove to Brown what you are made of.

well thanks for the advice, I don’t think I’m going to take the SATs again just because its past the deadline and I feel I’ve done the best I can. I’m going to work really hard on my essays though and hopefully things work out. If not I’m planning on applying to Cornell, NYU, and UVM RD, where I think my chances are better.

Yes, that’s another of the myths that’s often written on these boards. That’s why I posted the admissions facts and figures above, it definitively shows they take scores every bit as seriously as their peer colleges.

well, there is no such thing as “It is the best I can do.” To “try your best” does not mean anything. It shows your best is not enough. Make yourself better than your best. If you ask Ivy people, their best is above a 2200 on the SAT
