A sign of acceptance?

Hi,

Would a college contact you for copies of your 2013 income tax forms if you had not been accepted? My D just got contacted by the financial aid office of her ED2 college asking for them. Does that mean she’s in? I mean, do they go through last year’s income tax forms for every single applicant, accepted or not? She already submitted the CSS Profile and FAFSA.

Thanks.

This has been speculated on a lot of threads and it doesn’t seem to hold any merit. (Not that your child hasn’t been admitted!) FA has to lie in wait for notifications that students are accepted and then they have a small window to process the aid packages. It only makes sense that they want to have all information submitted and ready to go in the event that they need it, rather than hunting down the info after they are notified of acceptances. Just because the information is submitted (just like the CSS and the FAFSA) doesn’t mean they have to do anything with it.

Thanks ProudMomx3. I will look for the other threads. We’re in the two week window…it seems like they waited a month to ask for this stuff which made me hopeful!

I had to provide 2013 tax returns to one school shortly after the early application deadline so I would say, at least in our case, it has no bearing.

NEPatsGirl, we did that too, for an EA school last month. But this one is different and more specific. It says, “blah blah …review for your Early Decision application, however, we are unable to continue our review because further information is needed…” and then asks for the tax return (which must be backlogged in their mail room b/c I already sent it before the storm. The phrasing “unable to continue our review because further information is needed” made me think they are reviewing her application to put together a package. But maybe not! We will have to wait and see with everyone else!

Also, they sent it to her only, and not to me, which I find a little odd.
