This is a bit of a silly question, but I'm new to all of this. I recently found out that my graduation ceremony will take place in May, and this is when I would receive my high school graduation certificate. For me, high school officially ends in June.

However, I'm confused, because most colleges I have applied at don't even want to see my senior high school grades. Some only want to see mid-year grades.

So doesn't that mean that, once I receive my high school graduation diploma or whatever, I don't have to return to school for the remainder of the year in June?

And since I've already been accepted at a college/university (since decisions are usually around March and April) AND have gotten a HS diploma, I don't really need my senior grades anymore, right?

Oh, but then again, if schools that have already accepted you want to look at your senior grades, and they see that you have fallen a few grades, can they reject your admission?

The mid-year report is just to make sure you are not disregarding your high school education after you'd receive an acceptance. Unless you totally blew everything off (I'm talking about all D's or F's), the colleges are not going to repeal your acceptance.

I don't know exactly about your HS's policy but I would suggest not ditching the last few days of school. You've been through nearly 4 years of it, why not last it out for a few days. :]

Don't US universities also require you to send in your final grades before starting in September? I know for Canadian schools you have to send your school your final transcript with all of your grade 12 grades, and so technically if you're grades are significantly lower than earlier in the year, they can still rescind admissions. I don't know if American schools have a similar policy...

Also, if you receive your diploma in May, what do you do in June? At my school, our ceremony is in May but all we get then is really a "Certificate of Participation" in the ceremony; our real diplomas are mailed to us in July after all of our finals from June are marked.

Unless you've been accepted early decision or early admissions, colleges do use your first semester senior year grades in evaluating your application.

The school you're going to go to requires that your high school send your final grades and proof of graduation. Yes, if your grades drop precipitously, your acceptance can be revoked. That doesn't mean getting a B when you've previously gotten all A's. It means blowing off youru classes - getting C's, D's or worse.

What happens after graduation is up to your high school. I'm sure your guidance counselor knows. It may be that you're not expected to go in June. It may be that they won't send your final transcript and proof of graduation if you don't show up in June. You need to ask someone at your high school.

"Unless you've been accepted early decision or early admissions, colleges do use your first semester senior year grades in evaluating your application."

So what about second semester senior year grades?

Um...by the time second semester grades are out, decisions have been out for several months. You can get your accpetance recinded if you totally blow off your classes second semester, but it isn't really possible for second semester grades to be factored in regular admission decisions.

adult here -- sorry usually stay on parent forum. Our GC mentioned several instances of admissions being revoked, or threatened to be revoked due to last semester grades.... I imagine in the fine print of every letter is a something about satisfactory completion of HS ... dont stress, but dont stop going to schol
