I am a middle-class minority student with an intellectual open-minded spirit and unconventional political views that fit nowhere on the "left-right" political spectrum. Would the University of Richmond provide me with an adequate environment, both academically and socially, where I can happily reside for my undergraduate education?

8.8, I think you could definitely be happy at UR. Reading through your past threads, it looks as though you're big into philosophy and physics. We have a required course freshman year called Core in which you have to read eight books a semester from such authors as Marx, Plato, Nietzsche, Gandhi, Du Bois, Freud, etc. Every freshman must take this course, so you can discuss the readings/class commentary with anyone on campus. That's not to say that every student has read the books......but they have been assigned. I had one friend who was a philosophy major and enjoyed his time at UR. I personally took the symbolic logic course and learned a lot from it. Our science center was completely renovated a couple of years ago and is a beautiful facility. It seems as though you're interested in learning about our universe, and I think there's a professor at UR that you should contact to get some more information. Dr. Bunn graduated from Berkley and he studies cosmology. He does a lot of work on the Big Bang. Here's a link to his personal page with his contact info (University of Richmond Arts & Sciences: Physics) and a link to his blog (http://blog.richmond.edu/physicsbunn).
