a single dorm rm on West campus - how?

Let's say you have missed the housing lottery which took place in Feb. or March. Now you are applying late and you like a single dorm rm on West campus. Does anyone know how to achieve this? Any workaround? Any previous dealings that can be helpful? --- Thanks!

Well, you have to be a rising junior or senior to get a single on West anyway...so it depends what year you are.

From my experience, I was in the last lottery group for picking a single, and for women I know they overshot and some of the last girls ended up having to pick doubles...so it doesn't seem likely unless a chunk of people have all of the sudden decided to go abroad or something. There aren't that many singles on West to begin with...

I mean, you could try but I wouldn't get my hopes up or anything.

A rising junior, missed the regular lottery 'cause plan changed from studying abroad to studying on campus. nontheless a single rm is so desired. thanks for sharing your input.

I mean, it's worth a try calling and asking. A friend of mine got a single room and found out he's now going abroad...so there's an open room...and I'm sure he's not the only one in that situation so you never know. Good luck!

you're in my friend's boat from last year. she wound up with a single, btu one in edens.

duke always keeps spare singles on reserve for situations like this.

Bluestar7,

Thanks for that info. There is some hope after all. Do you know what your friend had to do to get that single in Edens? Did she simply apply late for a single and wait for mercy? Or Persistent phone calls or else?

Loveduke22,

Thanks for the newly available singe news. I will mention that when I talk to them.

Thanks a lot to both!

well you're on campus for your third year and you have already signed a three year housing contract. duke is obligated to find you an on campus room this year. just call them... don't be a nuisance with them or anything.
