I know everyone has been waiting anxiously for ANYTHING to happen around here. Well i cant really bring much news but there has been a little activity, a faintest suggestion you might say.

I came home today and on my bed was a letter from my Senator (Obama - IL). Knowing that getting a nomination from a senator is quite hard (since they are open to the entire state) and illinois has a rather competitive (though not nearly most) edge, i didnt expect much.

Sure enough the first words were “Thank you for you interest…blah blah.” At the point i put the letter down and continued changing (just got back from work/school). I picked it up to continue reading and it said that i had an interview with the selection board… Wow… was not expecting that. I was figuring it was just the letter saying i didnt make it past the initial reviews.

So I guess this is the first of many MOC interviews that will start going out. I was not expecting this from my senator. Slight good news!
(Were the boards down earlier today?)

Good news indeed. I still haven't heard anything from any of my MOC's yet either...I'm getting slightly worried about that (but assuming I get an LOA; which is a pretty tall assumption, I might add; I wouldn't have to actually compete for a nomination, from what I understand...) Good luck with your interviews, and it's definately good to hear that some people are only just now getting stuff regarding MOC interviews.

I said somewhere in an earlier thread (not sure where) that my other senator and my representative havent even closed their application acceptance. My other senator (Durbin IL) closes his november 11th and my Representative (Hyde 6th) closes his December 2nd (latest). So like i said i was plesently supprised to get this and DEFFINATELY not expecting it! Holy carp (yes...i said carp...), the interview is this weekend!!! So much for advanced notice!

In Texas, Senator Cornyn closed his sometime in October and he will notify nominees by mail on November 18, Hutchison's had to be in by October 27 and she didn't have a notification date. Obviously since Texas is so big, there aren't any interviews for Senators. My local Congressman won't even have interviews for their nominations, they will just choose by the paper person I guess.

Hopefully Hornetguy and I will have some good news to report on Nov. 18th.

Really? No interviews even for representative? Wow.

You know i didnt even realize that for Senator Durbin that people would have to travel from all over the state to chicago... I wounder actually if there are several interviewing locations (IE chicago, springfield etc). Wouldnt make sense to make it in chicago being far north... although maybe it would since so many people apply from chicagoland (the theme park).

Every little step is a giant leap forward! Weeee! to that letter Snipper. Congrats! Relax and do remember to breathe. You will do so well-I know it.

You guys are sweating bullets in here looks like. No one is hearing anything huh? Nothing is harder than the wait "carp". Hang tough guys!

Jamzmom - you deffinately made me laugh. In these stressful times and uncertainty of waiting, you humor and lightheartedness is a much apperciated, more so than you might think!

I think every one needs to heed jamzmom's advice... I know i havent played a computer or video game in the longest time and a little R/R is in order (not even on weekends).

I think Texas is to big to even have people drive to areas. My congresional district reaches from Plainview to Abilene and its a 4 hour drive between those 2 towns. From where I live (Lubbock), Dallas is 4.5 hours, Austin is 6, Houston is 10, San Antonio is 7, El Paso is 6. I think its just way to far to have interviews for Senators. I don't know why my Congressman isn't having them.

I had my representative interview me last saturday, and there shouldn't be any reason I don't get that one (he nominates up to 10 every year and didn't even have 10 apply). I also have an interview this saturday with my senator. My other one dosen't do interviews.

Good luck to everyone on getting those important nominations.

falconhopeful06, where are you from? I wish I knew how many people were applying to my representative. It would be awesome to know that I was almost garanteed a nomination. I'm from New York (right around Albany) so I'm guessing there are more than the alloted slots applying for a nomination...

The Texas senators have some interesting packets. Hutchison's is easy to do, but Cornyn's is ridiculously long, mainly because of no interviews. (My total from 8 questions was a 3000 word document). My congressman (10th McCaul) conducts all his interviews on Dec 3rd. I have a friend that has her interview letter, but I'm still waiting. And with redistricting, I don't know if my interview will be in Katy (Houston) or Austin because both are in his district (4-5 hours apart!).

I'm happy Cornyn is quick, November isn't going by fast enough!

The only reason I know is that I had to work out some scheduling due to both my interviews being scheduled at the same time, same day, but 200 miles apart. I think the secretary let it slip...but based on the amount of files I saw during my interview...it definitely looks right.

I'm from Iowa.

My senator has a full day of interviews though (and that's after people were already eliminated).

Does anyone know how many people the senators narrow it down? The letter i got said that i was selected from over 300 individuals... but is it 100 now? 25? Im sure its different for each office but i wounder if there is an average?

I think it went as well as possible. I know i attacked each question really well and came up with good answeres when a few caught me off gaurd.

Also, i learned i can speak REALLY good german when i "have a gun to my head" I didnt think i could speak it that well when a question was asked about it.

If anyone is in illinois, i asked and they have a total of 33 interviews with people (20 in chicago, 13 in spring field). 10 will get the go, 23 the no.
