They (Obama's panel) asked me why Muslims hate us. It was weird. Wait, ok, so 33 total... cue nervousness.

Did you notice Jim Tillmon?? The weather guy?? That was unexpected.

Did you notice Jim Tillmon?? The weather guy?? That was unexpected.

'They (Obama's panel) asked me why Muslims hate us."

I don't know if you went to summer seminar...but did you or anyone have the terrorism seminar there. This question just reminded me of that...actually a very interesting/informative seminar.

Or maybe I'm making no sense to anyone.

no, I didn't get that one.

Yeah, eee, there were a few questions they threw at me that caught me off gaurd, acutally it was one guy in particular who did and he seemed to be the most intimdating.

The best part i think i walked away when they all agreed "You will become a pilot one day, from what we see there is nothing that will stop you"...and that came from the intimidating guy!

That's so cool!!! The guy in the middle, he was really pushing AFROTC (they kinda all were). It makes me nervous because they think I should do that instead of the Academy. I don't know how they got that impression.

My best part was when they kept saying (they must've said it like 4 times), "you're probably going to get an appointment." Except thats only because of my test scores. And they were not nearly that sure I'd get a nomination.

I don't know... I am just reliving those twenty minutes and hoping hoping hoping I didn't say anything wrong.

Yeah, they were ALL really pushing AFROTC!! In fact, they were pushing everything BESIDES the academy. The one african american (i know there were two) was the guy really intimidating me, asking me all these curve ball questions, "What does it mean to be an american?" Fortunatly when they asked why i wanted to go to the academy, one of the things i mentioned and went into detail was the honor code. So when they asked the question about the honor code, i basically already answered it.

The guy in the center however told me i probably WONT get an appointment becaus they do not have my latest test scores (i took the october SATs and did REALLY well on them but scores were not delivered by the Oct 14 deadlines).

So hopefully durbin and my rep would still give me a nomination.

Again i think that those particular people were too much of number pushers... none of them graduates of the academy (one of them president of Northern Trust... what the chort does he know? cool he was there but still...).

Was the intimidating guy the one on the right?? because he's totally the weather guy on channel 2. And he was my intimidating guy too. He asked me what kind of plane I wanted to fly.

Yeah, I'm not optimistic about getting that nomination.

NONE of them were academy grads?? Interesting.

Gosh, my dd hasn't gotten that sort of question--about the Muslims, at all. She had her interview with her rep last weekend. They mostly talked about her ECs--flying and volunteer work. She just called--she just finished her interview with one of her senators. A retired Marine fellow, Annapolis grad, another retired service person and a lady that introduced herself as being the only non-military member of the panel. They had the standard questions--why do you want to do this, tell us about someone who has influenced you, etc. She has her last interview in a few more hours. It ws nice that they put them on the same day as it is a one-way 3 hour drive. At the end of the first interview, the panel commented that she presented herself well--here's hoping!

I like that question. It's one of those questions that isn't really so much about the question but how you answer it... "Sir, if I may, I don't feel all Muslims hate us, etc."

Good Luck to all you folks that have made it through the interviews.

Another great reason to get on the good side of your ALO. He called me tonight to check on how things were going and at one point during the conversation he talked about the Alo Interview.

He said that when they write their recomendation (if they so choose, many times candidate's ALO's dont recommend them!), it is the top thing on the candidates file. That way when the review board first reads the application, the ALO recomendation is the first thing to be read. Fortunately my ALO said he wrote me a really good one (given my second try).

Just a random fact id thought to pass around while we all wait with mind numbing, stomach wrenching, butterfuly brewing, ulcer poping, acne spewing, nervous twitching, stress foaming, anxiousness.

wow...those were some good adjectives

Well.... No news yet I take it. Snipper thats great to have a little bit of good news though. Its gotta help alittle bit. Keeping all hope that Dick will come through with your nomination! When does everyone believe that they will begin hearing something? Perhaps in December or after the new year? Keep hanging tough guys.

At her two senatorial interviews this past weekend, my dd was told mid to late December. About the time CGA sends out the notification on EA.... Good thing it's swim season--too busy to stew about it!

One of my senators announces nomination this Friday, yes THIS FRIDAY! I'm hoping, can't think about anything else. But my other senator is either december or january, and my congressman is january.

Let's hear it for Cornyn and his getting the ball rolling much sooner than the others. My congressman announces them at the latest Dec. 21.

I am starting a Texas thread for our info, i called them all today.

I got a letter from my congressman saying i have an interview on the 10th of december. The letter also said my file was complete...it shouldnt be. So i called and she said it was a mistake but she was keeping me for my interview date/time (i refrain from saying the A-word....), just to make sure i get my last letter of rec in.

I also talked with my counselor at the academy while asking about courses. She said that my file in particular had not gone before the review board (Although it should soon) which means i shouldnt expect anything at least for another week or so. Thats a major sigh of releif since each day as i came home my heart rate would sky rocket woundering if anything came.

More waiting....

and waiting...

I swear im going to develope a serious case of ulcers soon...

I talked with my counselor today and she said my file is up at the review panel and will be looked at tomorrow. Doesnt mean anything but atleast they will know my name, so to say.

My counselor made a bad mistake though... she said "You can call from time to time to check up on your status"... heh heh.

She reminded me that most appointments are given out in March so to hang tight.

snipper,

Good luck!! You've been as persistent as any applicant on these boards.

We're from Illinois also and my daughter's nomination interview was a much warmer experience and no one asked intimidating questions. However, they were promoting ROTC and I suspect they are just looking for your commitment to a military career. One member of the panel was a Naval Officer and he kept asking her why she didn't apply to USNA instead. Again, I suspect they were looking for commitment.

Can't wait to hear more rustling from you.

Well i have a little rustling happen this morning. I had an interview with my representatives selection board. Much better this time. Both were ALO's, graduated from the academy and were like "Come in, sit down and relax. At ease!" And were REALLY nice, very sympathedic and supportive. They brought up ROTC and of course naval academy but didnt drill it like obamas. All in all went well. As i exited the coordinator pulled me aside "Don't worry. You made it last year i see no reason why you wont this year. Your file is V-E-R-Y impressive and i like it alot. You'll have your nomination by the end of the week"

w00t!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY Snipe! I get on here these days just to see if you've posted anything. Awesome Awesome news!!!!!!! You just keep jumping those hurdles buddy. One of these days soon, you'll be posting about your appointment. I'm gonna throw a CC party & everyone is invited! Bring baloons!!! Go to sleep with a smile on that face tonight!
