It's happening Snip. Enjoy college for 6 more months. You won't know it after that. ;)

nice...

congratualtions. nice job. good luck with the rest.

I think my cynicalism is actually protecting me from any form of celebreation (And im not really complaining about it). Even after i was told that i basically had a nomination i began to doubt id ever get accepted even more. Previously, if i thought about the academy i could picture myself there doing things but i knew in my head i never would get it. Sometimes i thought it was possible i could get an appointment. However even after i was told that i basically had a nomination, i KNEW i would never get accepted.

I think its my mind protecting myself. Protecting myself from major disapointment, rejection/waste of all the effort and work ive done to get accepted, or just protection from the truth - that i COULD still get accepted.

Oh well. Im just being really cynical right now. I think i should change my application page for nomination status to "Yeah right..." to "OWNED! No nomination!"

Random thought: Since we have an "UNCynical" here...i think i should change my name to "VERYCynical"...

Got my nomination today from my congressman! Much happier to have it in paper, although what i was told was close enough.

One major hurdle down, gotta start sprinting to the next one (clearing medical). Another hurdle is not failing any college courses but i am not entirely worried about that one.

Either way, a nomination is a nomination and its great to have again (exact same letter as last year!)

Congrats to you! I can tell no hurdle will stand in your way this time. Keep goin'...

snipper_cr, I thought it was a C or above in every class (though I'm confused about what it says in the Instructions to Candidates: In one section, it says "A Failing grade in a college or HS class could be grounds for disqualifications", and in another section, it says in Bold you must get a C or above in every class w/ a 2.0 GPA). I'm actually kind of scared that I might not get above a C in one of my classes (not any one in particular, I'm just worried in general), cause I'm taking some really really tough stuff this semester, and on top of that I'm on the Track team and I work. If, Hypothetically, I did get like a D in one of my classes, I could technically retake it next semester, and get a C or above and that would cancel out the lower one, correct? I'm pretty sure that I'm solid for the C or above in everything, but I want to be sure just in case something happens.

A failing grade would be a D or F (both below a C). as long as you score a C in all your classes at least you should have nothing to worry about. I was a little worried about a D in calc but my calc teacher vihemently stated i will not fail and he wont let me fail (maybe cause i told him about the academy and i seemed to have been on his good side since?).

From what i beleive, if you get a D in a class, immediately sign up for it next semester at all costs. Lighten your load of what ever so you can do your best. Let your counselor know that you are retaking it as well. They might hold withdrawing your application until next semester grades are out. If you can get a C or above you should be OK.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I'm 90% sure that I'll get above a C in all my classes, which is all I need, but RPI can be freaking hard. Anyways, One more thing, with grade modifiers, like C-, is that conisdered "below" a C, or is it just D and F?

I am 99% sure grad modifiers mean nothing... I dont think they are even reported on transcripts.

Do you know how long it is until nominations are listed on the website? I have a feeling with holidays coming up it will be a while but oh well.

Still nothing from Obama...newbie senator....

snipper,

Congratulations on getting the nomination! We're all on pins and needles over your medical. (You know how cybermoms are ;) ) Hurry and get it cleared up so you can get the appointment. Have to see you at next year's Illinois All-Academy Ball in that fine looking uniform!

It tends to take a couple of weeks for the nominations to get onto the website.

I almost feel left out. I lucked out and was able to get a Presidential nomination and didn't have to worry about the others at all...very sweet relief for me.

But I wouldn't have minded a real interview though........I think. lol

Aren't there a limited number of presidential nominatio slots?

Not real positive...

I think I heard somewhere that an unlimited amount of people can be nominated by the President but only 100 can be admitted with the President as their source of nomination.

well, here's hopin' I'm one of the hundred...:-)

Web site status finally updated:

Nomination Status

Status: Received
Nominators:
Tentative
Honorable Henry J Hyde

What do they mean by it being "Tentative"?

either way deffinately happy that it showed up there!

Benjo6 had this. I believe it means that they haven't received anyting from your senators (tentative). Later, Ben's tentative was removed and his Congressman become the only nomination listed. If your app. status changes to "complete" it seems to mean that an appointment is in the mail. I'm piecing together a number of threads here. Good luck!

remember im one of the few who havent received an LOA. So if it changes to complete, it just means they have my college transcript (which will be mailed off sometime next week).
