After High School I attended a local Community College because I felt like my classes/sat scores/ect.. were not good enough. During the beginning of CC I had the idea that I was going to major in Criminal Justice, but I recently decided to change my major to Business (particularly Finance).

My Stats
Grades/Credits
Right now I have a 3.24 GPA with 21 credits, I plan on taking 12 more credits before I transfer. Ive come to the conclusion that I am a B+ student; I should be able to get a 3.4 at the end of Spring 2011.

Activities/Ect..
I have countless hours of community service, I participated in high school athletics, and Ive completed a internship as an assistant coach for a youth football team.

I shouldn't have to send my High School GPA and SAT scores since I will meet the credit requirement for transfer students.

Schools I'm Considering

-Right now my #1 school is Northeastern University in Boston, MA
Even if I am accepted I don't know If I'm going to be able to go here, the price tag is HUGE. It depends on the Financial Aid package I get (my parents don't make a lot, so hopefully it will be generous).

-My #2 school is Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA
A good friend of mine goes here. Ive heard a lot of good things about the Academics, but Ive heard a lot of bad things about campus safety.

I'm pretty picky when it comes to deciding on colleges, so I only have two right now haha, feel free to suggest something on the east coast.

I would check out American University in DC maybe. I’ve heard they give out quite a bit of financial aid. Plus it’s in DC so there are plenty of internship and job opportunities.

well, for one, the most successful applicants to Northeastern have a minimum gpa of 3.3, which they are not going to see you surpassed by the time of your application, so that may hurt you… as for old dominion, they have a very very high tranfer acceptance rate. according to college board, this was one year a statistic…applied: 3,868 admitted: 3,525. i think you have a sure chance of acceptance there.

I say if you get that gpa up to a 3.5 you should have a good shot at northeastern. As of now I think you would definitely be able to get into odu. Goodluck with both schools hope you get into northeastern btw can u pls chance me back also.

I think Northeastern University will be a pretty good match for you–you’ve gotten a lot of credit hours, your GPA is fine for a transfer and you say your a B+ student, which is great for a college student!

Lucky also, NEU tends to be very generous with merit-based scholarships and financial aid: check their website to see if they can give you insight. If you get in, definitely go! Despite the pricetag, it’s great because your pretty much guaranteed a job after graduation: from a family member’s experience, businesses pretty much from Boston to LA recognize the significance of NEU b/c of its Co-op program. It may not be an Ivy League-but it gets very high marks in terms of a practical education–it teaches you how to be a good employee

ODU I didn’t have much experience on so I looked up their stats; you should be a fine match for them. It’s good that your doing well! I wish you the best and that you get into whatever school you want to go to.

I say you have a good chance at Northeastern. You might want to try to bump your GPA up a little more like other people have said, but otherwise it seems like a pretty good match.

Don’t let the price tag discourage you too much. You should be able to qualify for financial aid or something I’m sure.

Can’t say I know anything about Old Dominion though… I’m unfamiliar with the school.

I’d be surprised if you didn’t get into ODU. Campus safety probably is a legitimate concern, but I’m sure some of my high school peers will end up attending and doing quite well, so it’s worth applying to, but probably not a good first or second choice.

Northeastern seems like it’d be a bit more difficult to get into as compared to ODU, but it’s also worth a try. I have a feeling you’re not totally out of the range for there either.

Keep researching, there are plenty of great schools out there! If you’re interested in Virginia schools with reasonably competitive but not insanely competitive admissions, I’d suggest checking out University of Richmond and George Mason University. Both have safer campuses than ODU, and U of R is gorgeous. Some Carolina schools might be good too. I’ve heard that UNC Chapel Hill is quite hard to get into freshman-wise, but I don’t know about transfers. Maybe you should look into UNC Greensboro, just in case. They’re less selective but I’ve still heard great things about UNCG.
