A specific question about my chances at getting into Emerson.

I'm sorry if there's an official thread or something for this type of thing, I'm new here, so be easy.

Emerson is my dream college, no doubt about it. I've wanted to go there since I heard about it my Junior year of high school, but by then I knew it was too late. I finished high school with a GPA of (make fun all you want..) 2.5, and my SAT scores weren't the best in the world (between reading and math, 1100, including writing, 1700). It's not that I'm not smart, because when I put effort into my world I'm extremely smart, it's just I'm sort of a procrastinator. I've just graduated high school this June and I'm attending community college this fall, and I plan on getting my GPA to around a 3.5 or higher, cause this year is all business. Now, I plan to apply to Emerson as a transfer next year (after I have one year of great grades under my belt). I've got a strong connection with an Emerson alum, I'm heavy into theatre, I'm a great writer so my essay will be great.

My questions are:

How high do you think my GPA will have to be this year to have a serious shot of getting into Emerson after one year as a transfer?

Should I retake my SATs, even now? I have no problem doing it, I'm just wondering if it's necessary.

Is there anything else I can do to enhance my chances, cause this is my dream.

Thank you in advance.

bump, please?

pleaseeeeee?

just one person would be wonderful.

Emerson is a great school. The great thing about going to CC is almost having a clean slate as long as you show a very positive upward trend in your grades compared to your high school career. I’ve heard for their regular freshman admissions they tend to want GPA 3.6+ for consideration into some programs. What’s your major currently?

Your SAT scores are a little low for emerson, but like I said before as long as your have a strong GPA, and some excellent EC’s that helps immensely. If you do decide to take the SAT’s you’d want at minimum a 1900. With at least a year’s worth of academics the admissions team would probably focus less on your SAT score and HS and more on your collegiate career so far.

As for your essay id recommend talking about growth, improving yourself, or just your love for your passions. etc… Hope that helps…good luck with parking in bumble**** oklahoma for the rest of the year its rough…

Thank you for the response, means a lot. I agree, I screwed up in high school, but Emerson really is where I want to be, so I’m just committing this year to getting my grades up, EC’s, etc. At community college, my major is Liberal Arts: Theatre; but I plan on either applying for Creative Writing or Film Production, I’m taking some direction class, plus an english class, math, history of the theatre, and a theatre into film class. 2nd semester I plan on taking a writing class, and another film class, just to show I can do classes in my major. I’m working on at the very least a 3.5, hopefully more towards 4.0, so thats great to hear!

I’m going to have a lot of good recommendations too. A senator, an Emerson alum, a former Emerson teacher, etc.

Yeah, I know my SAT scores were a bit low, so I figure it can’t hurt to retake them, I mean all I can do is improve.

Great recommendations for my essay. I’ll be sure to remember that. And haha I know, I live about an hour away from Boston, and I’m there quite a bit. Parking is just AWFUL. I plan on just leaving my car home and taking the T and bus back home, if I go there (which I plan on)

again, thank you!

one or two more bumps…

bumparoooo
