a stressed out prospective freshman needs move in information please!

Ok so i have so many questions about move in day.

Ok first, I know I arrive on august 30th, but where do I go whne I arrive? My dorm?

plus what time should I arrive so I can know what time to schedule my flight?

and where/when do I pick up my room key (my dorm probably but just checking)? Do I need to brign any paper work?

Also I plan to bring my xbox and television. How can i bring those? Do i have to UPS them?

THANKS SO MUCH YOUR HELP!

You go to your dorm.

I believe new students can start moving in at 8 a.m. and are able to do so throughout the whole day, so you have a huge window of time in which to schedule a flight.

You’ll get your room key, a bunch of “Hi this is how the Internet/phone/whatever works in your room” paperwork, and some other miscellaneous stuff when you check in. All you need to bring, really, is a photo ID.

Unless you want to take your television and XBox on the plane, there’s no other way to get them to you besides shipping them. Two things though: first, ask your roommates if any of THEM are bringing a TV and/or Xbox and/or any other gaming system that they don’t mind sharing; second, don’t ship anything before you check in because if it arrives at the dorm before you do, the NYU mail service may just try to send it back, in which case you can bid adieu to your TV and XBox.

Then again, why not just buy a TV when you get here? Surely the shipping costs here and back will be about the same as just buying a TV in the city.

yeah, you need to coordinate with your roommates to see if you can bring a television. . .one of them might have one, and it’s kind of obnoxious to bring one without asking.

you can also buy a used tv off of craigslist. then you won’t feel as bad about ditching it at the end of the year.

yes, check in starts at 8am and goes on until forever, practically. the first official hall meeting is not until the next day, so even if you arrive in the afternoon, you won’t miss much.

wow nyutimestwo and missamericanpie thank you so much for your responses. Your replies were not only expedient but also thorough. I am so happy people like you are on CC :D

thnx again for the answers.

ummm yeah you guys are right I have to wait until August 3rd to get my roommate information, and I will be sure to talk to him as to what he and I should bring.

and are shipping costs really that much? that buying a tv is the same as shipping one? eeek.Hmm I guess I will just have to wait totalk to my roommate and we will figure it out.
