I am in top 20% at a very competitive private school (total of 75 students).
However, my standardized test scores are pretty good; 2300 SAT I, 790 Math IIC, 790 Chem, 720 US History, 5 for AP Chemistry, 4 for US history and English Lang. and Composition. Would I have a shot at Brown if I get outstanding recs from my GC and teachers and write real good essays?

I know many so-called "good" colleges view students with a 3.70 GPA as a slacker, but would I still have a chance? And one more thing. I have US Citizenship, but Japanese is my first language, and I've been under American curriculum for 3 years. Would i have a shot?

are you a cornerback, too?

i think brown lauds solid academics over good scores...but it's not my call

Yes, I think you will have a shot.

if you are a unique student with the ability to demonstrate creativity --if you are outside the box in some relevant and interesting way-- you are in the running.

Dang. I think creativity is unfortunately something I lack, but I love the school so much and am gonna apply ED. My guidance counselor says I don't have to worry too much about my GPA, but I am still worried. By the way, my GPA is 3.70/4.00 (4.00 maximum, no pluses/minuses).

To gregunit: Yes, I am a starting cornerback for my school, but I don't think I will be recruited unfortunately b/c my school loses most games because of the extremely poor running defense. However, the passing defense is flawless I think.

well cornerback, if your school is super competitive, than Brown will understand what an accomplishment 3.7 is. And yeah, that probly means that you wont be good enough for Brown, even though it's awful at football.

However I recommend you still get in contact with the coach, with ivy league sports, you never know.

last year i intercepted 9 passes, but my GC says no one from my school has been recruited. Since my school is in a pretty weak conference, this won't count, but my GC says I might have a shot at Brown. :)

oh i just read over my post, sorry if it was clear, when i said, "and yeah, that probly means that you wont be good enough" i was strictly talking football. I meant to say that usually the high schools known for amazing academics rarely have great athletics programs.

How many kids (i.e. what percent of the senior class) do you guys usually send to top 25 unis or LACs?
