A stupid question

Are guns legal on campus? I told my Dad I was thinking of applying to Rice yesterday, and he apparently thinks they are since people are allowed to carry them around in Texas... he also just hates the south in general.

No; guns are not allowed on campus.

And the amount of violent crimes that occur in Houston is equal or less than cities such as Baltimore Maryland, Memphis Tennessee, Indianapolis Indiana, Philadelphia Pennsylvania, San Francisco California etc. (Federal Bureau of Investigation in the Uniform Crime Reports 2007)

And by “allowed to carry” surly he went “must go through concealed carry classes, concealed license training, pass extensive background checks, be 21 years of age with no criminal record, etc.”

Rice is unarguably one of the greatest universities in the country. I wouldn’t let your fathers degenerate prejudice stand in the way of you applying.

Ah thank you.

You are allowed to own guns at Rice. The rules are as follows

YOu can keep your weapon IN your car when on campus. You may not take it out

You are allowed to store your gun on campus with the police dept. in their armory.

In which case, you drive to RUPD and check it in

But cb… is correct, you cannot carry one around
