A Thread Exclusively for those of who recieved $0 at GW

So is there anyone out there who if they go to GW is paying $52,000 + a year to go. Any current students? It would be very interesting to hear your thoughts since we are bros; lets call ourselves the 52K club. The school acts like no one has to bear the full cost of their tuition, but trust me there are those of us out there. UNITE!

My thoughts to GW: you expect me to pay 210K for a bachelor's- are you kidding. I love GW, but i need to talk to some people like me to know what this expensive experience is like--i what plan of action the 52Kers have

I'm in the same position! NO f. aid at all-- while I have been/still am in love GW and everything it has to offer, there is no way I can pay (or my parents will take out the loans) 52k a year. I don't think I can do it-- which sucks, because I love GW! Anyway, I would appreciate any suggestions from current GW students about how to do GW paying full price!

Hmm. Well if there is no way you can pay for GW, there are options.

A lot of my friends are transfers... They spent one year (or two) at a cheaper school and then transferred in.

Also, it is very easy to graduate early at GW. They accept up to 30 APs or CLEPS (they are way easier than APs); I transferred in 18 CLEP credits myself. Of, if you can't test out of classes, you can transfer in summer classes after your first summer and/or the summer right after high school.

Another friend of mine is in ROTC; he gets a full ride.

There is also that scholarship for continuing students that is like $10,000/yr, but you have to have really good grades for that.

Whats the breakdown for tuition this year? I thought it was 37K for tuition and 12K for room/board? according to collegeboard.com at least.

Contact GW financial aid, don't give up they can try and work with you. but only you can start the process they aren't going to go out of their way to help you.

Apply for many scholarships

CLEPS are great ways to go! If any of the readers are military dependents, talk to the testing office in the education center at your closest installation.

My D is going to GW and we will definitely be in the 52K club paying for those wo aren't in "the club". It is distressing and I'm hoping that we find it is money well spent...we won't know that for a while.

Kimbee, I pm'ed you.

Does anyone know what they spend all of this tuition money on? what are they spending money that no other school in the country is buying?

JesusLovesYou--First the cost of living for everything in a metropolis like Washington, D.C. is going to be a lot higher than it will be in, say, a small town like Ithaca(where Cornell is located). Next, George Washington doesn't have a huge endowment like some of the long established colleges in the Ivy League. Finally, George Washington has totally transformed itself in the last 15 years or so from a commuter school to a major national university. To do this it has had to invest heavily in its infrastructure. As George Washington U. continues to reap the benefits of this investment, your degree from the University will also grow in value.

Kimbee -- My son is in the same boat -- paying full tuition. We're in Westchester also.... PM me... maybe we're neighbors!

yah i got no financial aid at all and i might be going. i figure all schools will be up in that range within a year or two but stil.. its a lot of money.

Wow, Im kinda jealous of all of you who didn't get any money but still might go. I can't even consider it anymore-- too many loans and my parent's aren't even considering it! I'll probably be at AU, cause I really want is to be in DC.

marlene88--you're right. Other schools' tuition will be going up over the next 4 years that our kids are at GW, but GW's tuition is fixed.

the fixed tution in my opinion takes the increase into account that's why tuition is higher-it just spreads the increases out over four years and then plus some at GW----you're not saving anything---the fixed tuition is a ******** advantage-----upon principle i just can't pay this much for school---walking away insulted by GW, i refuse---i got 18000 merit at a school ranked ten spots higher than GW---CYA later GW!

yes, RANK IS EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

obviously, it is the only criteria upon which to select a school.

hey i'm not really a rank freak myself....i was just trying to support the decision i've already made with some rationality

Which school have you decided to go to armcp? I hate the idea of spending the money for GW but the other options aren't that much cheaper. GW is also probably "ranked higher" than the other schools she was admitted into.

I think he got in Tulane based on previous comments.
