A thread from other forum...

After waitlested for WashUrdishes, and rejected from MITit, and didn't receive any good signs from other schools I have applied to in past 2 months, then miracles happened in the last day of admission process. After got rejected from both Columbia and Harvard (who cares about this school), I finally got into both JHU and Cornell, best of all UPENN (what a unexpected gift from God)....

Althouh Cornell still remains as my top choice in my heart, but my parent would probably force me to go to upenn anyway.

Ques: which of these three has the better engineering school and has good business major also?

first of all cornell? that place is in the middle of nowhere (believe me i know, i live about 1.5 hrs away) there is no like city life there. lots of gorges and cliffs to fall into/off of if you are drunk (it happens, a lot are considered 'suicide') and the weather is just like syracuse (where i live) dark, gloomy, and cloudy most of the time + Lots and lots of snow...
im going to JHU BME so i am totally biased towards it... but other than BME i dont know at all what else is good. BME is best if you got in to it.

I guess after I have already been posted this thread on both UPENN and cornell forums, but not not in here, it might seem to be unfair to JHU and would not give me a wel-rounded opinions from all side.

Anyway, the question is: BME in JHU vs. Engineering in cornell and UPENN

My situation now:
1) Will probably going to major in Biomedical in the future and minor in business (both finance and management).
2) My favorite school now is cornell, but after I have accepted to the other two, I think the chance for me to go there is slim. But how is Biomedical dept. compared to UPENN (I know BME in JHU is the best)
3) My parent now seemed to push me to go to PENN, because of its reputation and higher ranking...(sigh...every asian parent is like that)
4) Can anyone tell me more about living in Baltimore like and in Phi. like?

Thanx

To Kams: hahaha, you are funny man...about the suiside rate.

I am kinda like outdoor person, like nature...and I visited Cornell once (on a sunny day), and the campus seemed to be very beautiful and it also has a good eng. prog. so I guess that why my balance is shifted to Cornell

i guess i just have a slight agression towards Central/Upstate NY. but i am totally serious that the reason why cornell has such a high 'suicide' rate is cuz drunk kids fall off cliffs and die. plus like 20 kids from my school every year go there, so i feel that its like going from HS to college w/ no change. but my cousin went there and he liked it. he did premed and linguistics i believe...
if you are outdoor person, they have this Pre-Orientation program like the week before orientation at jhu for enrolling students. they have kayaking trips, hiking, etc. a variety of outdoor activities and stuff w/ all incoming freshman to get to know e/o and enjoy the outdoors... Also, during intersession they have trips to places (ie this year the galpagos islands) and you get credit for it and all that....
about the programs themselves, i am not too sure. Cornell and JHU are tied for #14 on the US News best colleges ranking guide. I think both are equally good in engineering. UPENN is great yes, but dont let your parents underestimate the quality of Johns Hopkins. my parents are asian too (indian to be specific), and they are extremely happy that i am going to the #1 BME program.
