Hi all,

I am in desperate need of your advice. I am a current college student at a top 30 university (not saying which since I wouldn't want to be identified later on) who has done very poorly the past two semesters - think 2.5, 2.6ish. I am not happy, and am looking to transfer.

What I'm asking is - is this a common situation? Is it common for students to transfer from one college to another (say, a local college) only to transfer again? That is - transferring a total of three times?

I am not looking for chances, I just need to know that there are success stories in regards to transferring when you haven't done so well your freshman year....

Use the Search this Forum button for ‘twice’ and you will get links to several threads asking similar questions.

You’re only actually transferring twice, but will have attended three schools. While it’s not a common situation, it’s definitely not unheard of either.

From your description, my question is: do you have another choice? You’re both not happy and not doing well academically at your current school, and I wouldn’t recommend continuing next year in the same situation as you will likely only dig yourself in deeper. So your choices are to attend a CC or take time off and try to figure out what the problem is. If you can raise your gpa substantially at a CC, your ability to transfer should be better than it is now, particularly if it’s to an IS public that has an articulation agreement with your CC.

Hi entomom, thanks for the response. I’m new to this board and should have done some more researching - sorry!

As for your question, I can attend Hunter in NYC, as I have been accepted - but because I decided so late to not return, the deadlines for many schools, as you know, have already passed.

I guess it would also be informative to mention I’m retaking a class, which if I get an A in, will replace the D i received and bring my GPA up to a 2.8, 2.9ish.

What GPA do you think I will need to be considered to schools such as Northeastern, BC, NYU, and any other decent nursing program in a city?

No problem, I suggest the Search route when there’s a good term to use, which isn’t always the case.

Nursing is pretty specific, so I’m afraid I can’t help you there. You might try asking on the Nursing Major forum, as members there are likely to be more familiar with what gpa is in the ballpark:
