Hey guys, I want an honest review. Never thought I would do this, but I would love some sort of input on what my chances could be to some of these colleges. I haven’t taken the SAT, but am giving a tentative score based on my psat, which was very strong. I’m an Asian male.

I think you should have a fair shot at all of these schools. Your main weakness I think is that you don’t have one major award, skill, etc. to push you over the edge. However, your whole app is super consistent, which is a huge strength. I would keep concentrating on your app and make sure that your supplemental essays, personal statements, and rec letters are solid. This is all assuming that your SAT really does turn out as strong as you’re anticipating. If you’re in the high school class of 2017 and you haven’t taken it yet, you should really get started soon so you have the opportunity to retest if you need to. Overall, though these schools are reaches for almost everyone, I think you’re in a pretty good place.
I really am. Like I know my chances are decent, but I have 0 experience with college applications. My parents went to college, but not in this country, so they can’t really advise me. I’m looking for any sort of input at all since I’m kinda going in blind here
Bump. I also forgot a couple of things. I’m president of the ping pong club (just something I do for some people who don’t have the same social skills as everybody else and are able to build relationships more comfortably). I’ve also used my summers to attend national youth leadership conferences for four years now. Last year was at Stanford where I got involved in the business alliance program I was talking about.
You look like an excellent student, congratulations!
What is your home state? Can’t judge your chances for UConn or Michigan unless we know if you are in state or OOS.
FWIW, I don’t think that Grinnell or U Michigan could be considered safeties any more, perhaps not even matches. They are increasingly selective.
Have you had a conversation with your parents about budget? Have they made it clear that they would be able to support four years of full pay comfortably? Being able to pay and wanting to pay are two things, and colleges and universities make their decisions based on the former.
I’m in Connecticut, which is why UConn is definitely the easiest to get into as a safety school. Plus I wouldn’t mind living in this area for a longer time if it really had to come down to it. And I am starting to make money off of the channel which can help pay for along with the majority which my parents are willing to pay (bless them rofl)
Well if u haven’t taken the SAT yet, then on can’t really chance you. Plus you only have one more chance for old SAT and that is if u signed up for January. You will probably take the new, 1600 SAT
But tbh I myself am an Asian male and feel that it is kind of harder for us to get into such schools. So while you do have great academic stats, you’re chances are a bit lower because you’ll be compared to other Asians who do equally if not better than you.
@lostaccount
It is understandable why he is worried. No one can say with confidence they have a “good shot” at Stanford or Yale, with any acceptance rate below 10%, nothing is guaranteed. However, I would say definitely say that you have a good bet for colleges like UC Berkeley. But again, nothing is guaranteed.
