I know according to the sticky posted above, Bio, General Chem, Organic Chem and several other courses are required to fullfil the requirements for "pre-med" but what courses are usually taken by a freshman? are bio, chem and physics all squeezed within the first year? and as a prospective pre-med student, is majoring in bio a good idea? lastly, is it beneficial to get into a study prep course for bio/chem/etc. before starting your intensive freshman year? sorry for bombarding you with the questions, i'm just a worried for the years to come =/

Let me try to answer some of your questions:

are bio, chem and physics all squeezed within the first year? No.

as a prospective pre-med student, is majoring in bio a good idea? Not necessarily. Major in what you may likely be good at, and “enjoy” it.

what courses are usually taken by a freshman? This is a hard one to answer. Usually, chem, bio and/or calc. Few freshmen take physics. They usually take physics as a sophomore or as a junior – An exception is that you are a physics/engineering major.

I agree with everything mcat said. O chem is usually sophomore, physics is either sophomore or junior year.

I can only answer for my D. She took Calculus, Bio 1, and Chem 1 and 2 freshman year. She has Bio 2, Orgo 1 and 2 this year, and others that I can’t think of now. Don’t try to do too much at once. Enjoy school!
