A UCD vs UCSB thread

I know UCD is ranked higher overall in engineering, but when I check the individual specific field rankings, it's only there in Agriculture while UCSB is there in a few things. What's up with that?

I'm guessing it's because UCD is a larger school and has more engineering majors and departments, and that's why it's ranked higher, whereas UCSB only has a few majors but is very focused and good at them. I got accepted to both (Chem E at UCSB and Civil E at UCD), but I still can't make a decision where I should go.

Anyone have any opinions or idea which one is generally considered to be the better school at engineering and if UCD's Civil program is any good?

Largest shake table in the world, dude!
I've heard some really good things about their civil program, and I'm generally unfamiliar with UCs outside of Berkeley... Except that my financial planner went to UCSB and he said it's really pretty.

See what you want to do major-wise, and secondly, where you want to be location-wise. You absolutely right about Davis's size and selection and SB's limited selection but good rankings. Only go to SB if you're reasonably sure you don't want to do civil.

The bottom line? UCSB is better in what they offer, but Davis is respectable as well in those disciplines, plus they offer many other engineering majors as well.

Go to Davis for Civil and UCSB for Chem. That helped didn't it? :)

aibaar - I never knew UCD's civil program was that well known. I guess I'll have to look into it more.

djplanet/collegemom16 - thx for the advice!
