A Unique Chance me-- anything helps!!!

Hi. My story is different than most chance me’s on here. I’m currently a senior and I’ve committed to a college and deferred my enrollment to the fall of 2019, however it is not binding. The reason I deferred my enrollment is because I was very sick over the course of the school year and wound up missing 60 days of my senior year. After being so ill I realized how valuable life is and have decided to take the year off to spend it with my family, work, run a business with my dad, and volunteer at a shelter that I have been wanting to volunteer at for so long but never had the time. The year will give me the time to finally get my life back in order after being so physically ill and lethargic for so long.

I will most likely end up keeping my deposit at the school I have deferred at (Northeastern University), however, in the event that I decide to apply to more schools, I have come up with a list of schools to apply to. At the time of applications, I was very sick and did not think my list through as best as I could. I wound up applying to a wide range of schools, however none of them felt too right to me.

My weighted GPA is a 3.8. My SAT is a 1410 (740 R/W, 670 M). I was on my high school’s varsity tennis team, I volunteered teaching tennis to children ages 3-5 at a local tennis club, I worked 15-20 hours a week at a restaurant, I was in both the spanish club and the film club. My essays were pretty incredible and I am so proud of them, as well as my recommendations. I go to a top public HS in NJ and I am multiracial (Caucasian, Spanish, Asian).

The schools that I am interested in hearing my chances for are:

  1. Boston College
  2. Lehigh University
  3. College of William & Mary
  4. NYU (double legacy)
  5. Wesleyan University
  6. Middlebury College

Right now, I am undecided but am most likely interested in pursuing a psychology major for a career in either I/O psychology or child psychology. I do not need financial aid.

To give you an idea of the schools that I applied to this year, some of the best schools I was accepted to are: Northeastern University, Boston University, University of Richmond, Lafayette College, Union College, UMD College Park, University of Wisconsin- Madison, University of Delaware Honors, and a few more. I had intentions to pursue business at the time, which I have decided against.

Anything will help in terms of chancing me or any advice. Also, if you have any recommendations for mid- sized colleges with good psychology programs that would be much appreciated. Thank you!

In addition, I got into Fordham University with $21,000 in merit per year. I received $15k a year in merit from Delaware and Union. There were many other offers, I just can not remember them off the top of my head.

Bump

your gpa and sat is pretty decent- - i think you have a pretty good chance for nyu, whereas bc/wesleyan might be a reach.

Will Northeastern allow you to apply to other colleges during a deferral year? Not all colleges do.

Yes, I have already spoken to admissions. @austinmshauri

That’s great. Do you need financial aid?

No, none is needed! I’m full pay. @austinmshauri

What don’t you like about Northeastern? Your stats are good, so if you don’t like Northeastern app to schools that are a better fit and see what happens.

I honestly think I will stick with Northeastern. I’m just a tad bit nervous about the co-op. It’s such a great opportunity but it seems like a lot for me at this very moment. It’s pretty intimidating to think about. I think I would benefit from something in between Lafayette, where I was originally committed, and Northeastern. I’m not sure though, things could change over the course of the year! @austinmshauri

Nyu was super competitive this year - with an acceptance rate of 13% to their school of arts and science - im pretty sure a 1410 and a 3.8 are not gonna cut it
