A very complex and interesting question

Hello,

My story starts as such: I am South Korean and graduated from Hong Kong International School with a 3.69 [top 10% of school] and 1930 on my SAT I and 800s on my SAT IIs in Biology and Chinese. I got into Brandeis, a mid choice, and studied there for two years. My current accumulative GPA is 2.7. I have a mostly Bs and some As in sciences, labs and neuroscience courses [my major] but did poorly on most "university required courses" like writing and pretty much failed calculus and economics, with a F and D respectively.

Now, due to some non-academic issues at Brandeis, they have indefinitely suspended me and I have these questions for you savvy people.

Can an international student with a previous F1 I-20 visa with Brandeis switch schools if they are currently under suspension? I reckon transferring to a community college with an open door admission would work. Moreover, do community colleges care about a pending court case/criminal history or similar issues?

I need to stay in MA. What are some of the better community colleges in MA? by better I mean, I] When it comes to transferring back to 4 year universities and II]has a strong science and or business background. Do any of these colleges offer co-op or internship related incentives?

To make my intentions transparent, I want to not return to Brandeis, but apply to a better University after my CC graduation. I intend to work hard. Would I have to transfer into a junior or a freshman?

Any tips and advice regarding this matter would be much appreciated. Please let me know.

Thank you in advanced.

dang…im not basing my answers off any facts just opinion. so i would ask CCs in MA and speak with a counselor there.

I think you can take classes at a CC and still transfer. and no i dont think they care about criminal history. pending cases maybe.

dont know any CCs in MA.

depends on the university you transfer too. but most likely a junior.

one problem i see with this is that you may be able to start again at a CC, but your academic records will still follow you when you apply for a university. so hopefully you can explain why you have a F/D etc etc. another option you have is to retake those failed courses and get a better grade. although you will have a “Z” its better than a failing grade. but also keep in mind some universities dont care if you retook the course and will still see it as you failing.

Thank you Dainese for your reply. I will take your advice and start e-mailing community college counselors. I do have legitament reasons for why I did poorly academically, family problems, drug issues and severe depression, which I am all willing to write about on my essay.

Any other thoughts people?
