a very philosophical essay - bad idea?

I plan to write about something philosophical in my personal essay. I’m not trying to sound witty in an essay, but that’s really who I am. I love philosphy and contemplating about life and stuff.

I might plan to write that to love is to be irrational. This sounds very controversial doesn’t it?

or maybe I could write about my rational self. iunno

maybe i could talk about how i perceive reality.

But how does it relate to YOU? It's fine to be philosophical but if it doesn't pertain to you, forget about it. For example, to write that to love is to be irrational might make a fine essay but it doesn't reveal much about you except that you're dogmatic and that you probably never celebrated Valentine's Day (just kidding). Write about your rational self. :)

If you want you can start and end your essay philosophical but don't try to teach them anything just be yourself and express yourself well. Go read some other persons essays.

I agree with Clipper. Philosophy (your own philosophical statement that is) would be an ingenious way to start and end the paper. That would be a fun little motif. However, your AO most likely is not going to be too thrilled with some saturated philosophical dissertation as a college essay. I am an aspiring phil major and I find that most people are not too interested with the subject because of how complex it may be. Write about how YOU like philosophy. Remember, it is all about YOU.
