I've been told that I have chances at the top ranked colleges because I'm very unique, although my scores/grades are mediocre. I'm planning to apply to the UC's (CA resident), Ivy's, and some other top ranked colleges. Please advise. Am i shooting too high?

What is the quality that makes you unique? As far as I can tell, your extracurriculars seem fairly ordinary - I could be wrong though; I merely took a cursory look over your list.

Honestly, I don’t see anything popping out that makes you unique. Am I missing something? Not much dedication in your extra-curriculars with the exception of your community service.

Lots of people play football, were you on varsity and did you play?

These are just some things to look at. You have an okay chance at UCLA and Berkeley in my opinion (being a CA resident in these tough times with the UC’s doesn’t help) and I think UCR and UCI are a match.

The fact that his grades are mediocre and he is applying to ivies makes him unique ;)

Ouch, sefago ): That was kind of harsh, lol.

Yeah… with a 3.5 you’ll be hard pressed to get into any Ivy. Your SAT score isn’t that fantastic either, and your ECs are good, but only average. My honest opinion? You’ll most likely be rejected…

^^^thats what you call harsh!

When you apply, make sure you have a good understanding on what makes you unique…is it the fact that you came to the US when you were 11 and learned English? Is it the fact that you were the only Asian on the football teaM? Is it the fact that you have well over the usual amount of community service hrs? NEVER KEEP THEM GUESSING…

yeahh, I guess it was kind of harsh. sorry if it came across as mean…I’m just kind of a blunt person? the Ivies are incredibly competitive though, and without something to make the OP stand out, he/she like the other >90% of applicants will probably be rejected
not to say you don’t have a chance. if you can emphasize something about yourself that IS unique/desirable, you definitely have a shot…

Is 250+ community service hours considered unique?
