Well, here we are a week later and we still do not have an final answer regarding my son's application.

It's not the fault of UF and the admissions department however. We had his scores sent to UF three times since last May, but College Board sent them without complete information (including birthdate) and so they cannot be properly matched up in admissions.

The UF Admissions office has been nothing but helpful and pleasant regarding this matter. We have someone we can now specifically speak with (direct extension) when we call. I am not sure how much confidence I have whether this will all turn out into an acceptance notification for my son in the end, but I do not feel he is being ignored by UF admissions. His application is not that exceptional, but neither is it unacceptable. To borrow a term from Real Estate: he's on the Bubble. Based on who we've seen accepted and denied, it seems to be pure luck!

Now, his HS Guidance Counselor and that office, I do feel abandoned by. That is, until I got smart and emailed the counselor instead of leaving msgs and I also CCed the principal. Amazing how fast she called after that! Like lightning! In addition to this UF stuff, it turns out that CFU has never received his transcript from the HS. That is the only thing holding his decision back there. He doesn't want to go to CFU over UF, but it would be nice to have a backup. He's also waiting for FSU for Apr 2, which doesn't look good since all his Noles loving friends all have deferments.

So that is my son's update. I say "we" a lot. He'd probably be mortified, but it is a family thing around here. And as long as I have an ulcer the size of Montana from this, it is WE who are suffering. :)

Where do you live in florida? If possible, you should drive up to Gainesville and talk to them directly. My friend did not get his decision neither on Feb. 14 nor 15. It turned out that he had forgotten to put some information on his SATs, and UF was unable to match up the scored. He drove up there and showed them his SATs scores. They said that it was the only thing holding him back and that he was now admitted to the incoming class.

I posted last week to this forum about my D who had no change to her status as of Feb 15 as well. After many emails and phone calls (including an email to the Director of Admissions and calls from her school principal), we finally received a decision on Feb 21 - accepted, but into the Spring 2009 semester. (btw, UF admitted they made a mistake, her application simply "fell through the cracks", everything was turned in accurately and on time.)

Needless to say, we are happy she's admitted.... however, since she was processed after the Feb 15 deadline, it makes me wonder why she didn't get into Fall 2008..Are they full for the fall semester? Is that why even though she was plenty qualified, now she can only be accepted for Spring 2009? On the flipside, were they placating us because I "went high" in the escalation process? Not sure to be honest..

i don't mean to sound ungrateful, we are happy she's admitted to UF at all.. but, clearly there are serious flaws in the system. i got sick and tired of hearing that my daughter was a victim of a clerical error.. over my dead body!

So for what its worth, my confidence in fairness of the UF admissions is shaken to the core. My hope is that no one else has to go through this agony and effort just to get a decision..

Good luck to both of you and your families.

p.s. i'm not a helicopter mom, but i will go to the mat on injustices that affect my kids and their future.

I checked his status page and it finally shows the SATs entered.

I would feel better about this situation if he had a back up in place that does not involve settling for Community College for two years. Not that there is anything wrong with CC for many students, but I want him to have a normal college experience. I even cringe at the idea of a Spring 2009 entrance (but at least it is something...).

I am very angry with his school GC. I am trying not to dwell on that too much, but I am going to insist she is not my middle son's GC after this year.

It's interesting that you got results going directly to the Director of Admissions, gbpapa. How was your decision delivered on the 21st? By phone, logging into status page, or other? I've been letting my son do the phone calls to admissions (with my direction), but I think i'll call there myself Monday morning. Do you have that email address still handy for the Director or is that something I can find if I look closely?

UF has been helpful though, which is more than I expected for such a large institution that is surely dealing with many phone calls this past week.

I'll update when I know more! I appreciate your updates, too. It helps to know that there are other families in the same position.

FloridaMomx3, I found the director of admissions email address on the UF Presidents home page.. I don't have it handy right now, but can look later. Also, I was notified about my D's acceptance via phone from the admissions counselor who assisted me. The next day the website was updated with her acceptance.

When you call the admissions office, you will get level 1 operators who can answer basic questions. You have to ask to speak with a freshman admissions counselor, then you will be redirected to level 2 support. These people know a lot more and can get you a decision faster.

Everyone was friendly, courteous and helpful.. unfortunately I was given 3 different answers to why my D's status had not been updated.. After getting to a freshman admissions counselor, we finally made some headway.

Again, best of luck to you and everyone else in this position.
