A "withdrawal" on the transcript

Was wondering how much a W on my transcript would hurt me? I go to a community college in Maryland, and plan on applying for transfer to Univ. of Maryland in june. My GPA is a 3.0 after the first semester (I barely tried and went to class for the first 2 months), with a W in one class. I withdrew because the class was at like 8 in the morning, and I kept missing it. In the spring I will most likely raise my overall GPA to a 3.5, so lets assume I do that. I'm re-taking the class I withdrew from first semester, (its a math course that is one step below college algebra) and will probably get an A in it because it is basically Algebra II. Assuming I do all these things, will they frown upon my "W" to the point of rejecting me?

Forgot to mention, I'm not sending in my high school transcript since I will have completed 30 credit hrs at the end of spring, so it's not necessary. Should I send in my SAT scores though? Only got a 1250 but that was literally 2 years ago. Maybe I should retake it...

dunno about maryland but in california W's dont really matter... they say having 4-5 when transfering from a community college to a UC or CSU is no biggie.

4-5? Damn California is laid back about their admissions. Thats good now i just have to get straight A's this semester lol

i have 8 or 9 of them wisconsin doesnt care either. Apparlently my cc does becuase they put me on matriculation dismissal which i have to go to some stupid work shop to fix. What they dont know is i went there as a backup for the classes i couldnt get the cc closer home, i just never got out of the classes on time

Its pretty much if you have a couple its fine more than that you need to have a viable excuse

i was concerned with some W's on my transcript, but it didnt affect my admissions for the schools i applied to..applied to 5 schools and got in all of the so far
