I'm seeing this trend on a lot of social networks. Sharing personal information in small "harmless" tidbits. CC is not a closed forum. It can be read by the general public even if they don't post.

Remember, that a stalker or a pedophile can begin to search old threads and compile a lot of cumulative data you don't want them to have:

hometown
school you are going to
age
race
gender
classes and general interests
and now height.

Makes you a lot easier to identify (or find). Word to the warning (same with Facebook, etc.) Sometimes "innocent questions" aren't as innocent as you might think.

Thanks!
I’m freaking out! There ARE people on CC that know me better than I do!

Should I change an account??(as I’ve posted some really personal info) Sorry I was really naive because…well on the Chinese CC, everybody knows where you’re going and they don’t have such a powerful “search” function.

Thanks for the words of wisdom, Exie. I have disclosed my family’s financial condition which I don’t think I should. Other than that, I did not give out plenty of identifiable information about me, but thanks to the post I’ll be more careful.

Gonnastop, the idea of giving up this account and starting a new one has crossed my mind several times since I’ve had a really long post trail. But I think that the veteran members on this forum like us have sort of formed a community, and I’d prefer it that the other members “get” what I’m talking about, if you know what I mean :p.

No, don’t change now that people have established relationships with you. Just be wary of providing personal things that could be used to compile a dossier. For instance, suppose the next “diversity quiz” is hair color? Or eye color?

For instance some could go on campus and look for a tall 15-year old, Asian female from New York but born in Thailand whose parents are bankers… and has dark hair dyed with blue streaks …who chose Mercersburg over Exeter and likes Harry Potter.

See what I mean.

Sometimes, the innocuous stuff like favorite books is okay (unless you use that stuff as a password hint). But the height, gender, race, hair color stuff was getting a little scary. Because they come as individual polls, but someone with bad intentions could put it all together.

I’ve revealed my…age, gender, citizenship(I’m Chinese so don’t worry), financial situation, dream job, favorite TV shows, and probably my school(gosh people will start looking me up?).

Alright there are several kids applying to BS from my school. There are more Chinese applying. They all want to go to a top school. Fine…and FB doesn’t work here. Nor do I have a Chinese FB account so it’s fine…
