"A/Y" double?

For Shapiro Hall, what exactly is meant by the "A/Y" in "A/Y double"? Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

I'm in Carman and I also got an A/Y double...I'm not sure what it means yet.

on my tuition bill it says "Schapiro A/Y Double"... Is this a definite housing assignment? I really hope not...

GT2, are you a transfer too? Yeah, the tuition bill is where I found out I was in a Schapiro A/Y double. I assume this is a definite assignment, but I could be wrong.

yes i am a transfer. i've been on the phone with housing all day. i absolutely, positively, require a single. as a junior transfer this is absolutely unacceptable.

You're both transfers...that's what I'm looking to do. I'm at Columbia all summer doing research in Biomed, and hoping that'll give me a leg up in transfer admissions. What schools are you two transferring into, and what'd it take to get in?

columbia college... econ major.

I'm really not quite sure how i got in. i think it was alot of luck, some great recommendations and essays, and just being the candidate they happened to be looking for as a transfer.

I know columbia is like one of the most selective schools to transfer to in terms of acceptance rates, so anything like the summer research you are doing should help. Try to get a stellar recommendation from a professor or someone who is affiliated with the school and i bet that would help too (obviously).

the guy from housing has still not gotten back to me.............

A/Y means "academic year," as opposed to only a single semester (or the Summer).

I'm a transfer and I got a double in McBain. Does anyone who got Schapiro want to swap with me? I think this'll be a particularly good swap for sophomores since McBain is the most social sophomore dorm. I would rather be in Schapiro since I'm going to be a junior. Also, I'm a female if it matters for the swap.
