A1 Auditions 2019

@loribelle Not yet. At this point I am just expecting a refund. They have so many applications and I worry that when you submit a video, it’s all about timing and it is easily lost in the shuffle. Have you heard back yet?

No, we have not. Maybe in person were given priority.

My son was accepted the first year with a video submission since they did not audition on college campuses the first year. The past 2 years they auditioned on his campus and I do feel you have an advantage if you are seen in person, especially for the dance call. If you submit a video, the earlier the better because as they audition on college campuses and fill up slots they will be more selective.

@mthldy My D emailed them today, since original email said she would hear by November 1. They are now saying December 1. Deadline for submissions was yesterday. I believe their last live audition was today too. Total ~2500 applicants. I “think” they accept ~1,000. Hope that info is helpful.

Where did you hear they take apprrox.1000, if you don’t mind my asking?

@loribelle thanks for the info. That is very helpful. Maybe there is still hope! ?

As there are only 4 days of auditions and they offer tickets to one show (at a specific time) for the attendees, (and the show they are seeing is in a theatre that only holds 1000 people), I would be truly surprised if they accepted that many… But who knows?

@fancytheatrekid Their Facebook post quoted from last January’s conference:
70 casting and artistic directors, 40 staff members, 30 workshops, and 900 actors. We are ready for you 2018! So excited for January 11th! It’s time to book!

They had a lot more applicants this year, so that is why I estimated ~1000. Hope that helps.

Should my daughter assume she is a “no” if others at her live prescreen already received a “yes”?

They did auditions on my child’s campus this week. Decisions were handed out a few hours later. My child is a freshman and received a no.

My daughter sent in video for the first time and she received a yes after a couple weeks. She just received another email last week with more specifics like free workshops she can attend and a discount ticket she can purchase to see the new Broadway show, The Prom. She is excited to be attending and hopes to get a summer stock job. She has worked the past two summers at amusement parks.

Students at my daughter’s campus were told by the A1 auditors that they are taking 400 people out of 2500+

I wonder which of these numbers include graduating seniors and beyond auditioning for non-summer stock there?

@MTfamily1 I don’t know but will say she was also told that they do favor upperclassmen.

I believe we saw around 220/day at A1. First day was all NYC talent, day two was mixed, days three and four were all college students - with day four being mostly freshmen/sophomores. (I THINK!) I remember seeing a bit more per day that we would see at SETC.

So the numbers a1 saw includes all the auditions at college campuses as well? My daughter is a freshman and was fortunate to get a spot. Wondering what the true numbers are. Total number of auditioners including videotaped submissions, in person auditions and auditions at college campuses. And how many received spots. Just curious  What a lovely opportunity.

@fancytheatrekid They have stated they have had about 2500 pre-screen applicants total this year. It sounds like they accept about 880 or ~40% for final auditions in NYC (or possibly more for this upcoming season), of which about 60% (~550) of those are college students if they are following the same pattern.

@loribelle have you heard anything yet?

@mthldy No, we haven’t heard. But, we did get a yes for SETC pre-screens.

@loribelle that is great news! Yay! I think we are headed to MWTA. ?
