AA and OA

Just a heads up nice article on UA homepage about AA and OA!

A couple of pics are included. Hope the kids are having a good time and esp for the OA kids hope they are drinking lots of water!!

These are such great programs! They are especially good for kids who are coming from OOS and don’t know many people.

DH received text from DS at AA yesterday afternoon. Physically exhausted (he’s outside building benches & raised garden boxes) which I figure is part of getting used to working in the humidity. Otherwise he’s having a great time. :)

Daughter has called several times and is having a great time at AA. Fortunately, she is inside painting hallways.

Heard from DS just now, the Day 1 OA canoe trip and stream monitoring was great fun, today they split into groups building benches, trails and a 40 ft. bridge. Big group meeting for dinner tonite at Lakeside. Says it is fantastic and everything is great! Phew! :)

AA has a facebook…I’ll bet OA does, too. They will add parents on as members to view the pics…enjoy  I emailed and then went on and requested to be added and it was done quickly.

Big thumbs up for AA. Day 2 text about meeting so many new people and how nice everyone is. :):)

I got a call from DD telling me that she was so glad she was doing OA.
She rode her bike to the rec to workout tonight and said it was good to see familiar faces from her group. They are working hard, doing some good, and making friends from all over. What a great way to begin the college years!

Good news! Good news!

The kids do seem to have a nice balance of hard work and fun.

Roll tide!

The Student: I agree! My daughter has loved every aspect of the week. She had a blast at the campus-wide scavenger hunt and was looking forward to tonight’s activity: Capture the Flag and Ultimate Frisbee on the Quad! She is also loving working with the middle schoolers and painting! Very successful week!

This just published on Tuscaloosanews.com:

Malanai: Sweet! Thanks for sharing that.

Talked to D last night & she is enjoying the week to the point that she thinks she’ll apply to work with the program next summer. She ended up missing the night at the Rec Center because she sat down on her bed & all of a sudden it was 8pm  And apparently you get used to the heat quickly; she said it doesn’t feel that bad anymore.

I am so glad that she is able to have this week to get involved before every thing starts. It’s a great way to start making connections, especially for the OOS students.

Just had a text chat with my son. I asked if he was glad he did OA and whether or not it was worthwhile. His response: “Yeah, it was super fun and I met lots of cool people. And hey, it’s not over yet. We have dinner tonight!”

malanai: do you know if the OA & AA kids are having dinner together tonight?

Thanks for sharing! Great program for the community and new students. It’s a win-win!!

^ it would be really cool if they were having dinner together tonite - I’m sure many of them have not realized the others are there.
DS said the same as RobD’s D - he wants to sign up to be a student leader for OA next year. Has had a great time but is now eager to have the rest of the kids check-in - the dorm is kind of quiet…

My son’s text just said the week has been AWESOME! Thank you OA and Bama for creating a program that brings students together by doing something for the greater good! ROLL TIDE!

Son says he doesn’t know if there is a joint OA/AA dinner tonight, but doubts it since OA is having a slide show of their week at their dinner. I guess we’ll see.

^
^^
obviously our kids have met at OA - wonder if they know we’re on here talking about them? :)
