Don’t mean to be all debbie downer, but your test scores suggest grade inflation at your school. You have good chances at Minnesota, Illinois, and Wisconsin but your chances at the first 4 are almost nonexistent.

Hate to say it but I agree with the others. The #4 kid at most schools would have above a 28 ACT. I’m probably 20/200 in my school and I have a 32… this is because my school is tough. Your ACT makes your school look… weak. I’m not saying it is, but the adcoms would probably think so. Ivys and Northwestern are very unlikely, probably in at others though.

I think people are being too harsh here. Your test scores are weak, but I don’t think they’re enough to immediately disqualify you, and your class rank/GPA can’t be entirely due to grade inflation. Furthermore, if AA means African-American, then that will help you quite a bit. I would say the quote-upper-unquote Ivies are something of a reach (Princeton and Brown), but Northwestern and Cornell may be a little more realistic.

The OP here has probably not told you that he is an Olympic caliber distance runner (best time of all Olympic trials this year) and is 50% Cherokee and 50% Black.

Now, does he get in?

I say yes, easily . . .

Test scores and GPA just shrink to irrelevancy, don’t they? Now you guys are thinking like Ivy League adcoms!!

Well, your act is low, but it also depends on what you got on each section. If you got 30s and above on all your sections, except one, then your scores aren’t as bad as you think. It just depends on what major you want to major in. If your African American, that will also help. I also hear that standardized test scores aren’t everything. I come from an extremely competitive high school (use to rank in the top 100 high schools in the nation). I have better test scores than quite a few of the people in front of me. I just take standardized tests better them. (by the way I rank in the top 5% of my class) I have a friend who is close in rank to me and he can’t take any of those tests to save his life. (he actually got a 23) Those tests don’t mean as much as you think. Retake the act again if you can and also take the SAT. I know for me, I did a lot better on the SAT than on the ACT. Hope this helps.
