Great article Starfruit!

did anyone apply to any other camps for this summer?

I still haven’t gotten an email. Yikes. That can’t be good…

same! I’m guessing that means rejection, but I really, really wanted to get in, so it’s a major bummer not knowing.

Well I’d hate to speculate but the deadline for confirmation letters was April 6. So
for those of you who haven’t heard back yet I wouldn’t get my hopes up

Keep trying! Maybe you’ll get in next year. And the best of luck to you with your other applications if you applied to more than one program

Wait, I was unclear about that. I’ve gotten a confirmation email but nothing regarding my status. Although I think I’d like it better if I hadn’t gotten the confirmation in the first place, in which case I could at least blame my apparent rejection on the possibility that AAJA never received my application. But they did. Darn.

I received my acceptance on the 2nd! I was surprised, I got rejected last year.

I am guessing that they want to see who will accept and turn in their papers to attend, before sending out rejections. (So they can bump up any waitlists)

^ that’s logical.

That makes sense. What are the odds of getting in as a rising junior?

Confirmation: Yes
Decision: Nope

I think the odds are higher, especially if you applied before? I am sure they give preference to Juniors, though.

Yeah, I would think that sophomores would have a higher chance of getting in than freshmen. On the other hand, I don’t know a single freshman who’s 16. I’m not even 16 yet.

:( it’s already the 11th and no decision yet.
this is killing me!

Same here! Oh, the suspense…

I’ve already come to terms with the fact that I probably did not get accepted, as it seems acceptances were sent out quite a while ago. Ah, well.

I’m not abandoning all hope, though!

hmmm…me too…still didn’t get the result.

I haven’t recieved anything yet. I’m probably going to get rejected…

Barely anyone on CC got in this year.

Hey are there any other juniors who got rejected? I know they prefer rising seniors, so I feel like I kind of have to be extra stupid to have gotten rejected as a junior :/

^ It’s probably just a slight boost. And getting rejected isn’t indicative of anything.

So yeah. I just got the official rejection. Looks like Mr. Vang just BCC’d everyone.

"Dear 2012 J Camp applicant:

Thank you for applying to the 2012
J Camp program and being patient while we made our selections. We are sorry to inform you that you were not selected into this year’s program. We had many strong candidates and the decision was difficult.

We were impressed with your materials and highly encourage you to apply for next year’s program. Details on J Camp 2013 should be available in November at AAJA.org. The website can also provide information on scholarships and other student programs.

We
applaud you for taking such a strong interest in journalism and wish you the best."
