what do you mean? so…the higher score, the better? what’s with the “Average” score?

Going off of yummymushrooms’ theory, the average score could be the score each judge gave to an application.

but yummymushrooms had a score of 9, and an average score of 9, so wouldn’t that mean only one judge gave him a score so far?

I think Lotami (correct me if I’m wrong) means that there are multiple judges, and the average score is the score given by a single judge. That way, they have stuff like standard deviation to measure a score because all the judges have different preferences.

Since someone just got rejected, I’m going to assume that those who weren’t accepted are all on the waiting list?

I think you pretty much got it, yummymushrooms. But to clarify, I’ll use an example. Bob submits an application to JCamp. Judge A gives it a 10. Judge B gives it a 9. Together, the total score is 19, but the average score is 9.5. Using me as an example, assuming this actually happens, Judge A gave me a 10. Judge B likes me more, puts down a 13. My total score is 23 but my average is 11.5.

But really, although I’m sure all of this guessing is slightly comforting to those who are waiting, it’s best to be patient. You’ve submitted your app, now breathe. There’s nothing you can do to help it now. April 9 is not too far way. You will know your decision soon.

Hey everyone! I just found out I was accepted! It says my average score was a 10, so I’m not sure what that means. Anyways…so excited to meet everyone!

congrats sambo!! I still have no email I’m so disappointed. Which part of the US do you live in, btw?

Congrats, sambo! Can’t wait to see you in D.C! Judging from past years, it’s likely we’re going to get a JCamp shirt soon :)

Thanks everyone!
@RhythmMeleon, I’m from Vermont, how about you? And don’t worry! It seems like emails are coming at different times. I got mine this morning, and then went on the site to find a score after reading about them via CC threads. I’m sure everything will work out. Like they were saying before, keep checking until April 9th.

(PS. College Confidential won’t let me respond to your private message because I haven’t posted more than 15 times…yikes!)

@Lotami, where are you from??

I’m from Florida. This is going to be one of the few times I’ve ever been to D.C. so I’m really excited! I did remember something about field trips in the email so hopefully we get to sightsee while we’re there.

@sambo, I’m from the east coast. Just like you. I just don’t get why they are still “reviewing my app” if I already have a score on it…

I haven’t got a rejection or acceptance letter either. On my score report it says that my score was a 10 and the average score was a 10. Does that mean only one judge judged me? Why are they giving out acceptances/rejections before they’ve finished reviewing everyone’s work? GAH.

@ElizabethFlee same, except my score/avg score were both 9. I wish they’d notify everyone at once. I haven’t even received a confirmation besides the fact that my app was listed as ‘sent’ on the website…

@thinkblot, I did not get a confirmation either except for the “sent” on the website. It seems pretty disorganized…when my sister went to JCamp, everything was by mail and it worked out much easier.

The thing I’m worried about is if you have to confirm your spot by April 9th, then my chances of getting in are pretty low…wouldn’t they tell us by now? Are we on a waitlist?

I suppose the people who found out earlier probably had stronger applications. Looking back, my essays could have been much better if I had spent more time on them. It reminds me of “likely letters”, something colleges use to notify the best applicants so they don’t go anywhere else. Not getting a likely does not mean your chances of getting in are gone. It just means you’ll have to wait longer.

But Elizabeth, I agree, they really should tell us sooner. To some extent, I do think we’re on a waitlist… Good luck on your application, though!

Ugh, oh well, guess we’ll wait it out and see. Good luck to you all as well!

Is there a set number of people allowed in each year? Like last year I read there were around forty…does this number change each year or do they accept all the people they think deserve it, regardless of the number? I’m just worried that they’ve already gotten enough people and that’s why we’re just sitting out here without any notification whatsoever.

@thinkblot I think they accept around 30 to 40 people each year. I don’t think they would just not notify us at all though; that’s pretty rude. Also some people have gotten rejected already so I guess we’re just in limbo? Maybe they’re deciding on the last few people to get in? I don’t know

I think they should at least tell us that we are wait listed… It is very disorganized. Nao Vang said that we should wait until the end of the week, but don’t accepted people have to confirm by the end of this week ? and we stay in Gwu dorms right ? So I’d think they’d accept everyone who deserves it…
