AAP- difficult? or all talk...

i was looking at the cornell acceptance rates by college thread and the attached link

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=233448

as i was looking at the statistics stated in the links in the thread, i realized that "wow. AAP has low average SAT and ACT scores. compared the the other schools at least" more specifically this pdf: http://dpb.cornell.edu/documents/1000176.pdf

this information surprised me because i heard that AAP was by far one of more difficult schools to get into. i heard that basically it is ALL on your portfolio. if you have adepquate sat etc and a amazing portfolio you are in, however vice versa and you are screwed.

can someone clear this up a little for me ? or maybe elaborate a little as well?

danke

and also i know that any school is difficult to get into of course. im just saying, i heard it was more difficult than others.

That's because SAT scores aren't emphasized in admissions to the Arch school. Your portfolio is very important.

i heard the difference between a "yes" and a "no", is that true? in your opinion

it comes down to this for arch...

it has to be a "yes" from each one of the architecture professors who reviews your portfolio (each prof. reviews each portfolio). If you get one "no" then you will not get in regardless of your scores. Admissions will also say "no" if your test scores are low, unless the professors beg for the student to be accepted due to an incredible portfolio. There are enough applicants that admissions can be picky and choosy on who to say "yes" to and who to say "no" to.

admission rates this year for architecture itself is 1 out of every 8 applicants....so basically do well in everything you do. admission rates for Arch have been more competitive than ever, probably because cornell arch has been so high up in the rankings and people rely on rankings a lot, though it def shouldn't be your criteria for deciding which school you want to attend.

SAT's don't reveal much about your talent in architecture which is why they aren't stressed much but your academic standing should be good because it reflects your character and ability to learn architecture to some extent.

right now i'm a first year arch student at cornell and the way we are graded have nothing to do with test scores ...it's a very different kind of education that you're accustomed to in hs.

*has....sorry
