Aaron Copland School of Music vs Ithaca

Hello. I was accepted into the music school at Ithaca college and CUNY Queens (Aaron Copland). Does anyone have any recommendations as to what would be a better choice. I'm a classical percussion major and would be an undergraduate freshman.

Thanks!

If price is an issue, Aaron Copland is a real bargain. The COA at Queens College might actually equate to a 90% savings.

Can’t comment on instructors as I’m not versed in Percussion.

My daughter will most likely go to Cuny Queens for music ed. Freshman oboist. She likes the idea of being close to NYC.

percussionmajor, welcome and congrats. I’ve added your acceptances to our list here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/1045522-master-list-music-school-acceptances-fall-2011-a.html</a></p>

While I can’t speak to percussion, I’ll agree with sagiter that Copland can be one of the best bargains anywhere if finances are at all an iisue. There are some very impressive faculty across a number of instruments.

You can look for past info, try and find fellow percussionists by using the methods and links I detail here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/1115670-save-yourself-some-angst.html</a></p>

Ithaca has Professor Stout and Conrad Alexander. No offense to the staff at CUNY but Ithaca has Professor Stout. I’ve seen Michael Burritt, She-e Wu, Linda Maxey, Rebecca Kite and no one is as good as Professor Stout. He is a monster and his ensembles are really, really good.

Conrad is no slouch either. He’s a monster timpanist and an extremely nice guy.

I guess you can tell which program I vote for. My son will do auditions is 2 years and Ithaca is definately on the list.

Aaron Copland can really save you some money. It’s small, so you get a lot of individual attention, and it’s really close to Manhattan.

Thanks for all the help. I decided to go with Ithaca because of the teacher. It’s more money but I think its a great investment to work with Stout.
