Okay so I'm thinking about the Asscoiate's Degree for transfer from my CCC and if I get it I am guaranteed admission to a CSU campus (not necessarily the one I want, but one). So my question is let's say I apply to 5 CSU campuses and the one that will offer me requires admission is not one of those 5 CSU campuses that I applied to then what?

I know maybe it sounds a little ridiculous but I'm just wondering what happens then? Will I be notified that oh this is the campus that you are guaranteed admission to so you should apply here ASAP or something like that? I'm just a little confused as to how that works so someone please enlighten me

You will only be offered admission at the colleges you actually apply to. You will not be pursued to apply to a college where you would have had guaranteed admission but did not apply to.

So your saying an AAT with a guaranteed admission means absolutely nothing???

I mean there are over a dozen CSU campuses and you aren’t told which one you’re guaranteed admission to so if you don’t apply to that exact one you’re screwed as far as being guaranteed admission?

Like hypothetically someone graduates with a 2.0 and they apply to 5 CSU’s and all reject that person is stuck with a degree he got with what is supposed to be a guarantee of admission to a 4-year CSU and he gets admitted nowhere?

That doesn’t make any sense at all, I think they should at least say okay this is the CSU you are guaranteed at and if you want to apply to other CSU’s as well that’s on you but you’re guaranteed here.

Check with your community college to see which CSU’s they have guaranteed contracts with. My daughters CC has a bunch of the UC’s, a few privates, and two CSU’s. This information should be available on line at your Community College’s website - do a search. Our information was listed under Transfers, Guaranteed transfer FAQ. Or call them and ask.

SB 1440 (re: AAT) does not guarantee a student admission for a specified major or campus, but requires the California State University to grant a student priority admission consideration to the local CSU campus and to a program or major that is similar to the transfer AA degree as determined by the California State University.

From the same page: A California Community College student who has earned the Associates in Arts degree for Transfer (AA-T) or the Associate in Science degree for Transfer (AS-T) will be granted priority admission to the CSU into a similar baccalaureate (BA) degree program.

It’s weird one part says will be granted priority admission and another says will be granted priority admission consideration.

So does that mean that you are not actually guaranteed a spot you are only given extra consideration? That would be kind of a bad deal.

I think all the CC’s have TAG’s for the UC’s and as far as CSU’s only the low ones like CSU Northridge have those :/

I was told that you are guaranteed to one CSU but would not be told which one and that all the others you would be given special priority in admissions because of your AAT status.

It is not a secret as to which CC has guaranteed priority admission to a specific CSU. Every CC I looked up had the information listed on there transfer website.

I go to Moorpark College it’s the best CC in CA per capita but I guess it’s not worth being noted for the CSU’s.

I’ve heard 4 people I knew got their guaranteed admission at Long Beach 2 at Northridge and 1 at LA, all from the AAT and all from Moorpark so that makes no sense what you’re saying…

Are you sure that everyone from one CC is guaranteed at one specific CSU? Or does it depend on major or…

No? lol I’m doing a TAG in September though…I was just curious about the CSU’s and AAT’s because I’m getting one (even though I don’t need it) and so that I could be better informed to help others with questions.

OH… well I got my AA a couple months ago and it meant nothing to the CSUs, I’m not sure because its not from a CCC even though half the credits were from a CCC but they told me getting an AA means nothing.

When did they start this AAT/AAS thing? BTW, Northridge isn’t really that bad… Now CSULA is a whole 'nother story lol.

Yeah the AA means nothing but the AAT is really great

Northridge is pretty bad as far as financial aid awards, housing, and overall reputation.
(I’m comparing it to the schools I’m applying to which are: UCLA, UCB, SDSU, SFSU, UCSD, and the one ill probably end up going to UCSB) so in comparison it’s dead in the water lol

So no info from personal experience on this?
