AB Duke and Med School

I'm just curious...does anyone know the impact of being an AB Duke Scholar when it comes to med school admissions (HS senior here)? I'm relatively sure I can maintain a solid GPA, and do well enough on the MCAT, but I wanted to probe the CC forums. Does anyone out there have any idea how undergrad merit scholarship programs such as AB Duke affect med school admissions?

While I know that Duke already has a good med school placement rate, I'm wondering if there's any substantial boost from the AB Duke. I know you can't quantify any change in chances, but it would help if you could just give your opinions.

There’s a huge boost from the fact that these are very good students. The scholarship itself won’t do very much. The study abroad in England helps a little, and you might get an extra LOR or two out of it. But mostly it’s not a big deal.

fair enough, thanks.

I’m just trying to think about the AB Dukes that I know. One is doing a PhD at … Cornell? One got a Master’s from MIT. One is in law school at Yale. One’s getting an MD/PhD from Harvard. Etc.

It was their quality, not the scholarship program, that got them there though. I know BDM agrees I’m just clarifying for the readers. In other words, its a really good sign about your quality as a student.
