Thanks.

Got an email yesterday. Anyone else received one or know anything about the scholarship??

Thanks.

Congrats, I got a letter too! For the University Scholar scholarship :)

Congratulations!

The AB Duke is Duke’s primary academic merit scholarship. Learn more here: [A.B. Duke | Memorial Scholarship Program](http://www.abduke.org/)

I know a lot less about University Scholars. But you can find a little bit of info on this page: [University Scholars Program :: OUSF: Office of Undergraduate Scholars and Fellows](http://www.aas.duke.edu/ousf/programs/unischolars.php)

Im a finalist too! congrats! So they picked 49 this year. Any idea how many are chosen for the scholarship? Also, do they bump you down to a lesser scholarship if you’re not chosen?

Congratulations, guys. No, I don’t know how many they pick, but there are currently 9 for the class of 2012.

Input from anyone who attended the finalist weekend, a similar one, or knows anything more about it would be greatly appreciated.

any international finalists?

did you apply for that or they chose you because of your exceptional stats??

I guess they just choose from the applicants. Exceptional? I dont know. Lucky? yes.

arich – I was reading about these earlier. There are 4 merit scholarships (not including Robertson), and each of them have the same award (full tuition + $5000 summer grant?) but different criteria (one looks for involvement with community, one for interdisciplinary involvement, etc). If you are a finalist but do not get the scholarship in the end they say they will replace any loans in your financial aid with grants, should you go to Duke. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong. For the Univ. scholarship finalists they picked 29, dunno about the others. I think they pick around 8-10 people for the Univ. scholarship, not sure about others.

so if i didnt get one today, i didnt make it for any of them?

O thanks. That would be nice anyway. Even at this point the odds are against getting the scholarship. Free visit will be nice though.

arichjoe, where are you from?

Definitely lucky. There are so many qualified applicants.

Mesquite - Unfortunately, yes.

Congrat Guys.
Are you applying EA or RD?
If RD do you got likely letters?

i think jds3 meant “did you get”. i wish, but i heard duke was only ending out minority likely letters this year.

Edit, “only sending out HISPANIC likely letters this year.” Bitter.

haha, jk. Congrats to all who got them!

Well the scholarship candidacy notification contained an acceptance statement along with it. What exactly does a likely letter look like though? I haven’t gotten any from any other school.

Is it true that most AB Duke finalists tend to get accepted at HYPS too?

Renbruno, i’m wondering this too. any inputs?

Most AB Duke finalists are accepted to HYPSM. The AB Duke scholarship is the enticement to draw potential Rhodes scholar-types to Duke. AB Dukes are groomed for those after-undergraduate scholarship programs so there is a little pressure to perform but lots of support from faculty and administration towards that goal.

Remember one thing: Your AB Duke scholarship interview visit as the interview itself. You’ll be observed as much outside of the formal interview as you are during it.
