Last year, I took AP Calculus AB as a sophomore and I got a 5 on the AP exam. This year, I am taking AP Calculus BC as a junior. I am wondering what will happen if I get a lower score on the AB subscore. I am not confident that I will be able to get a 5 on the AB subscore, as I have forgotten a lot of concepts from Calc AB. Does it matter what score I get on the AB subscore this year? Do I have the option to only submit my 5 from my sophomore year and not this year’s subscore? My fear is that some colleges will require me to submit all my AP scores, and getting a worse score can’t be good. Is there any way for me to opt out of receiving an AB subscore? Thanks.
My son got a 5 on the BC test, but got a 4 on the AB subscore. His school didn’t have the requirement of taking AB first before BC. And he proudly admits to being the only Asian in his high school to do so. Didn’t affect his college admissions so I wouldn’t worry.
If you get a score on the BC exam that gets credit, nobody will care what your original AB score was or what your AB subscore is since any BC credit will supersede. If you don’t get a high enough BC score to get BC credit, you can still use the original AB score. Don’t worry about things that might not happen. Good luck.
And the overall score on the BC is what actually counts.
