AB vs BC (AP Calc Junior Year)

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering whether or not extremely selective colleges care whether you took Calc AB or BC. Some of my friends were telling me that colleges care about the level of math you decided to do in school itself.

I will be a junior this year and will be taking AP French, AP Calc AB, AP USH, American Literature Honors, and AP Biology.

I decided to take AB this year to ease off my schedule and was planning on studying to take the BC AP test in May.

If I receive a 5 on BC will a highly selective college still care about the fact that I haven’t taken BC as a school class?

I plan on taking Calculus D the following year at a nearby community college.

Thank you.

Colleges usually do not care. I have a friends who did that and he got a 5 on the BC exam while taking an AB course. I personally think it doesn’t matter.

Nah, colleges generally don’t care. I don’t think they notice.

Depends on the school and your intended major. If you’re, say, applying to Yale then it probably won’t matter. If you’re applying to, say, MIT or Caltech for pure math, it might be prudent to take BC. Also, what do you mean by calc D? I’ve never heard of such a thing… lol
Do you mean mv calc (i.e. Calc III)?

Calc D is usually diff eq. I recommend you take Calc III (multivar) before taking it.
