Yeah, and the sizes don't go as high as almost everyother clothing company. lol. Not just that they dont have certain sizes in most stores, but the biggest size they make in mens jeans is 36" waist and for womens it's a size 10. lol. And of course they only hire hot white 18-20somethings. They have an image to uphold. And Abercrombie isn't the only store that does this. They just have such a specific target customer that it's more obvious there. (the race thing is stupid tho) I mean, look at Nordstrom. You're not gonna see a 280 lb. 55 y/o man working there, right? Most of their employees are 25-50 y/o attractive women. Cuz that's their target customer.

I think it's funny tho when I walk in the store (or Holister, etc) with one of my 17 y/o, blond, 5'5", 110 lb. girl friends and they ask um if they'd like a job or are looking, or something along those lines. It happens everytime w/o fail. Kinda pathetic but oh well.

Oh it's def. about a lifestyle. The stereotypical "14-18 y/o suburban, mall shopping, mid-middle to upper middle class, mostly white, teen" lifestyle. Or IOW, the lifestyle of Cher from that one 1995 film about the girl from the "Valley" fitting the stereotype that I mentioned above. HEHE.

I believe that is Hollister's target age group. Abercrombie's supposed to be more for the college students, no?

Don't wanna get too involved in this topic because most of what I'd say has been said already, but I would like to add that I actually like the smell of their clothes.

Would any of you buy if you could find the clothing at 50-75% off?

haha, my mom came across Chinese sites that actually sold the collared shirts and T-shirts for anywhere from $5-$10 for the T-shirts and $10-$15 for the collared ones.

melancholy dane,
its not a matter of "not knowing the real brands" or something. "preppy" isn't based on a brand, its a STYLE...or more like a lifestyle...that originated with prep schools (duh, hence the idea "preppy") and referred to the style of individuals who attended these schools.

but yeah, form my post on ap previous thread:

<<american eagle, abercrombie, hollister= NOT preppy
since when did ripped jeans and graphic teachers mean preppy?
jcrew, lily pulitzer, ralph lauren = preppy
ANY polos, seersucker, classic blazers, pearls, cardigans, madras, ribbon belts, etc. = preppy

preppy is not a BRAND, it's a lifestyle: preppy: (adj) of, pertaining to, or characteristic of preparatory schools or their students.

you cannot ask for a polo and then claim that a certain brand polo is preppy. thats ridiculous. a non-preppy polo is about as close to a fashion oxymoron as you can get. >>

im a guy and ill once in a while buy stuff from abercrombie, hollister, AE, but its because(i know this might come of as being pretty cocky) im pretty jacked and i worked hard to get that way so i like wearing clothes that shows off my muscles and their shirts are probably some of the best at showing off someones muscles( if you a guy).

Lightzout: and some girls wear short skirts to show off their legs, tight jeans and shorts to show off their @sses, low cut shirts to show off thier boobs, and mid-drift revealing (although these are uber tacky IMO) to show off their stomachs. Right??? So, who gives if ur comming off as cocky. In the words of the bootylicious one her self (Beyonce): "If you got it flaunt it, (boy/girl) I know you want it..."

I personally dont see the point in buying fake stuff
the only reason I would want a Lacoste polo would be if I really liked the way it fit me and a particular color or something and if I wanted a really well made polo that would last a long time
if you buy a fake one you're just buying a random really cheaply made polo with a fake alligator sewed on. what the point? you couldve just gotten one at some department store.

same with the counterfeit designer handbags. the reason I'd buy a designer handbag is cause its great quality, well made, looks good, and lasts a long time. a fake one looks and feels cheap and falls apart in like a month

i guess it makes sense if you just want the brand name though.

^ I completely agree. I don't see the point of wearing fake clothes just for the name if it's going to fall apart after a few washes. I wear clothes because they're comfortable, fit well, and last for a good while.

Abercrombie and Fitch is definitely not preppy. I go to a very preppy boarding school and it has its own preppy customs, especially with nearly the entire student body taking vacations in Nantucket and Cape Cod and Newport. No one wears A&F. They wear Jcrew (mostly), Ralph Lauren, JL Beans (?), and others.
And besides, I went to a A&F store before and I don't like their quality of clothing and I couldn't even fit into some shirts. My friend and I laughed at how the clothes were for anorexic girls because while I normally wear xs and s, I could barely fit into a large there. That was ridiculous.
