Ability to get in classes and class sizes

I have a couple questions that I can’t seem to find answers for by searching. First, my D will probably be majoring in something in the humanities, most likely English. She is not in the Honors College and not pre-med. The only science and math she will take will be whatever is needed to fulfill distribution requirements.

So all that said, how easy is to register for the classes you want? She was looking at course listings but we wonder if you can really pick what you want or do you just have to just take whatever is available what you register. Also, what are typical class sizes in the humanities? Do they have the very large classes like you get in the sciences? It seems like the two questions are related. If the class sizes are larger than it is easier to get in. Any experiences out there from non-honors humanities majors?
