Abnormal Situation? (Other people may be in the same boat)

Hi Everyone-
So, I kind of have an abnormal situation going on (and I think others may also apply). My OVERALL GPA is 3.79 (4.03 weighted on a 5 pt scale) but for engineering at the University of Michigan your GPA is also recalculated just to include math and science classes. My recalculated GPA of just math and science is a 3.53.

Will this strongly effect my chances of getting into the engineering school? My math ACT subscore is a 28, science is 28 also (composite: 31).
I just feel like a lot of people may be in my position: they have a good OVERALL GPA but a lower GPA when it comes to the recalculated just math/science.

So I would just like to know, should I apply to the college of engineering at UofMichigan or just stick with LSA? I'm pretty sure I would get into LSA.

Thank you very much =)

Hello. You should apply to the University of Michigan engineering program. There is absolutely no harm in at least trying. Even if your GPA is lower than you had hoped, with good SAT/ACT scores, high level classes, relevant extracurricular activities, etc. you can give yourself a very good chance. Try taking the ACT again with solid preparation, or even try taking the SAT. You can also try the SAT II Math Exam. If you do well, it will give you a stronger case. Good luck. Please give me advice as well.

That’s a pretty low GPA for UMich :(
