About CS & ECE

Hi everyone,

I have been admitted to CS major of Purdue undergraduate. Is there anyone can tell me the difference between CS & ECE? How is academic environment of these majors in Purdue?

Otherwise, I am an international student from China, so I'm looking for easy and convenient ways to Purdue. Fly to Chicago, and then? Is there anyone can help?

Thank you!

ECE: research, development, design, and operation of electrical and electronic systems and their components

CS: understanding the properties of the programs used to implement software and using that understanding to create new programs or improve existing ones

To get to Purdue, I would either:
A) Fly to Chicago and catch the Express Air Coach back to campus (Express Air Coach provides ground shuttle service between the Purdue University Airport and Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, http://ww2.expressaircoach.com/</a>)
B) Fly to Indianapolis and catch the Purdue Limo Service back to campus ([Lafayette to Indianapolis Indiana Airport Shuttle](http://www.lafayettelimo.com/Shuttle/tabid/162/Default.aspx))
C) Fly to Chicago and take the Amtrak to Lafayette, catch a Purdue bus back to campus (http://www.amtrak.com)
D) Fly to Indianapolis and the the Amtrak to Lafayette, catch a Purdue bus back to campus (http://www.amtrak.com)

Regarding traveling-
I do not recommend taking the Amtrak train to Lafayette. Since it only takes you to Lafayette, you still have to get back to campus and it may be snowing or raining which makes it a pain. Also remember that Purdue and the City buses do not run on Sundays (most people come back on Sundays after breaks) and therefore cannot take you back to campus.

Figure out what airport is cheaper to fly into and has less stops (probably O’Hare since it’s the larger airport with more international flights). I fly into Chicago’s O’Hare because it’s a non-stop flight and is a larger airport with multiple flights per day from home. Flying into Indianapolis takes forever for me because it’s a smaller airport with less flights and generally a horrible experience. But I know many people who take non-stop flights to Indy, so you just need to research which one works best for you. Except the Chicago Midway airport; there’s not a Purdue bus that picks up there so I don’t recommend flying into there.

Thank you for your response.

So, ECE needs you to write many programs with computer language right?
Could you tell me if there is any inconvenience in the campus, of West Lafayette?
How is the settings of the dormitory?

Thank you guy. I will check the map and decide how to get there.
Are you a current student in Purdue?
