Today, MIT updated the website, which shows the early action applicant notification date. It says mails will be sent out on and before 12th, and phone will be available starting 16th. Well it doesn't send decisions using emails, but how about on MyMIT? When will we be able to view our admission decision on MyMIT? Or that's not an option at all?

No. Decisions are still sent through the mail and are not available online.

mootmom's right.

quoted from myMit:

Early Action applicants notified of admission decision
mid-December 2005

Freshman Admission Early Action Decision Letters will be mailed on or before Monday, December 12, 2005. Please note that we do not send admission decisions by email. Beginning Friday, December 16, we will give admission decisions over the telephone to applicants only; call 617-258-5515 on weekdays between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

What? That's beat. How convenient it will be if it can be available through MyMIT, like other colleges....

if MIT sent decisions through email, there would always be those who would try to hack into the server

but i wonder what's the purpose of MyMIT really?
except tracking application if u don't know if u accepted

you only register for a myMIT account if you want to submit online...

the point of the larger myMIT website is to offer more information to prospective students through the blogs of some admission officers/current students. I like the blogs

I suspect there will be more functionality in MyMIT over time; I think this is only its second year. In the meantime, think of it as a link with MIT's illustrious past, with the mystery of an admissions decision arriving in your mailbox at home.

Or something.

Wow that's sooner than I expected. Now the wait truly begins...

The blogs & other "inside look" content is the main point of MyMIT; you'll recall that until recently you had to log in to see that stuff. We brought the blogs outside the password so that parents and other folks who weren't able to register would also be able to view them.

Registering gets you the online app, app tracking, financial aid tracking, the events/deadlines calendar, and perhaps most importantly it's the only place where you can get your interviewer's contact info. Admitted students will also get some special content (including a class of 2010 guestbook), but not until a week after decisions have been mailed. MyMIT won't change for students who are deferred or denied.

Y'know, there is something to be said for tradition. Finding your acceptance letter to college in a form that you can touch and read over and over again and show to your friends and family is one of those moments in life that you will simply never forget. It's worth the wait.

nicely said!

well, for some ppl it's worth the waiting cos' they know the acceptance letter is coming. But for other ppl, waiting for it is just hell, because we don't know whether we're accepted or not. And if we're rejected or deferred, we won't be reading that letter over and over again.

nobody ever knows for sure. just gotta hope for the best

personally, i like the snail mail deal.
isn't it more personal?

i don't think it's personal when mine gets lost in someone else's mailbox

i really wanna know how long it takes for it to go from Boston to Philly. What class of mail is it?

Us Cali kids ate it. We won't find out until the 15th or 16th.

Last year, the letters all went out on one day (Friday the 10th), according to Benjones' blog.

Not sure (and MIT isn't either at this point in time, I imagine) whether they will get them out again on Friday this year or whether they will stagger them out perhaps...Friday, Saturday and Sunday....or....just mail them ALL on Monday.

Be assured, that Ben and Matt will let us know when they are in the mail....right? ;)

Last year many of the EA admits in CA had their letter by Monday the 13th. (Yet some students in NJ didn't have theirs for several more days.)
