Hi, I am an international student studying sociology and my overall GPA until now is 3.92. I was wondering about how many extracurricular activities I should do. I’ve been a member of one club since winter quarter and I was a secretary in spring quarter. I guess I will be a vice president of that club in the following fall quarter. And I work at the school’s tutoring center as a tutor and I am going to work at the one more tutoring center from the fall. Is this not enough? Should I do some volunteer works from the fall? I am worried about my extracurricular activities… Oh and I am going to apply for UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCD, and University of Wisconsin Madison.
All the UCs takes your GPA as a top priority. Extracurricular activities won’t be as much great impact as your GPA. It’s more important to meet the prerequisites and maintain that 3.92 GPA!
From the stories I’ve read so far, some people even got into UCs without having any significant extra-curricular activities. That’s all that I’ve got from reading.
Hmm, I’d say 3.92 GPA is as almost an auto-accept to UCs to me.
As long as you meet pre-reqs defined by department and finished IGETC!
Some people do say IGETC’s sole purpose is to get you to finish general education at CC so you don’t have to take lower-division classes when you’ve transferred to UC. Thus, giving you more broad option about transfer.
It’s leaving it up to students if whether they want to finish it or not. It’s an option for you to decide. You can solely follow the UC’s individual plan for your transfer. (ex: UCB and UCLA’s CS department requires you to finish 3 of physics classes, whereas it’s not stated in the IGETC or other UC’s CS department.)
I’d say finish it whilst doing the pre-reqs for the specific major.
It wouldn’t hurt.
I’m barely starting in CC and this is what I’ve read so far.
I hope I’ve helped you!
