About Fall FASET

Hi,
I'm planning to last FASET session this summer which is a couple days before the first day.
I live over 500 miles from GT, so I think I'm elgible for that session.
Is there any disadvantage on attending later FASET dates? (I understand that the website says there's no difference. But is there?)
Also if I sign up for the final FASET session, do I get to check into my dorm earlier?

Thanks in advance.

There is no disadvantage in terms of registration at the last FASET, as far as getting into the classes you need. However, sometimes you will not be able to get into the classes you need WITH the professors you want. Preferred professors classes typically fill up quickly, and the people in charge of registration do not always save sections of every professor for later FASETs.

For housing, I think you do get to move into your dorm early if you attend the last FASET, but I am not certain on that.

Participants in the last FASET get to move in to their dorm early. Let me look up the dates…

I can’t find the Move-in Dates for 2010, but here’s how it worked in a previous year:

August 13: Any student can move into their dorm early for a fee ($55/day)
August 14: Last FASET students can move into their dorm for free
August 16: All freshman can move into their dorm for free
August 18: Any student can move into their form for free
August 20: First day of classes

For Fall 2010, classes start on the 23rd, so I would expect them to simply add 3 days to the above schedule. But check housing.gatech.edu for official dates later this summer.

Thanks! It really helps. I have to start planning things for the summer, but I didn’t see any dates for this fall, so I’m curious to when are they gonna list the dates for this year. Least I have some ideas for now.
Also, I understand that GT requires everyone to own a laptop, but they haven’t listed requirements for this year. I wonder which version of Windows 7 are they gonna require? Also, is someone actually going to check if I meet the requirement?
Thanks again!

No. But if you can’t run a piece of software because of your laptop, that’s your fault and OIT might not help you fix it. Really, it’s not that big of a deal.

The biggest problem you’ll face is if you buy a desktop instead of a laptop and your professor requires you to bring your laptop to class. Or if you don’t have Microsoft Office and your class requires you to use it.

hey, i think you have to be more then 600 miles away from Tech to be eligible

http://faset.gatech.edu/pdf/2010%20FASET%20Orientation%20Dates.pdf

That’s odd. Your PDF says I have to be 600 miles away while the website says
“Students wishing to come to FASET 6, but live closer than 500 miles, can change to FASET 6 (on a space available basis) starting July 1st at 9 a.m.”
Well the thing is, I live 575 miles away. Not quite 600 miles away.

Hmm. Register for it and see. The policy used to be 500 miles, but recently changed to 600 miles (there used to also only be 5 FASET sections, and there are now 6).
