About FAU

FAU is pretty high on my list, I haven't visited yet, but I want to know how it is with the commuting and what not. Is there a lot to do on campus? Is the stadium going to built for Fall 2011!?

which housing is in the central part of the campus?

Hey jlc128,

I attended FAU for seven years (undergrad and master’s) so I can help you out here.

I’m not sure what you mean by “how it is with the commuting and whatnot” but I assume you’re concerned about people coming to campus and then going home. Do people do it? Yes. Does everybody do it? No.

I sure didn’t. If you want to get involved, you can. Your best bets to hang out and meet people are Greek Life and Intramurals. Those are the two biggest social activities. There are other things, obviously - University Press, Student Government, academic clubs and whatnot - but when I’m on campus after 5 pm it’s usually about those two things: sports and Greek Life. I played ultimate frisbee and kickball. Now they have water polo. If I was still there I’d be doing that too.

In terms of lots of stuff to do on campus, I mean… it’s a school. We have dorms. We have sports fields. We have a game room, a student union, a big rec center, a pool, jewish center, jogging trail, pretty much what everyone else has going for them. We don’t have a museum; instead we have a digital movie theater that serves beer.

The football stadium will open October 2011. They’re building it right now.

The housing in the central part of campus would be one of four buildings: Glades Park Towers (all freshmen), Heritage Park Towers (something like 50% freshmen), Indian River Towers and Algonquin (aka “C block”)

We also have the University Village Apartments and we’re finishing up a new 1200 bed apartment-style dorm called Innovation Village Apartments… but those aren’t available to freshmen.

Hope that helps. I loved my time at FAU. I made great friends who still talk about our time there. Definitely check it out, visit the campus. It’s beautiful. And it’s right near the beach. Can’t beat that.
