About financial aid TAP (FULLTIME, PARTTIME)?
when i applied for tap, (HESC)i chose that i will be fulltime student. But i will only have 11 major credits next semester(fall2009). so i chose another course, which is not my major class. I received a letter it says"your current bill indicates that you chose courses that might not count for your major, you may not receive your TAP award for this semester."
so i have to drop that class for sure..BUT i will become parttime student automacially after i drop that class? and how much TAP can i get?
Then the semester after it (spring2010) do i have to stay in parttime?
which means i can only have no more than 11 credits?????
thanks

You can earn up to $4583 per semester with 11 credits. You can go full time and get the benefits of full-time TAP until it’s disbursed, you just have to update your account.

Actually, if you are a freshman next year, you’re not eligible for part time TAP. Part time is only awarded if you had at least 12 credit hours in each of two consecutive prior semesters.

To be eligible for Part Time TAP, you must:
be a legal resident of New York State
be a United States citizen or eligible non-citizen
have graduated from a US high school, earned a high school equivalency diploma, or passed a federally approved ability-to-benefit test (refer to Questions and Answers on Ability to Benefit)
be matriculated as an undergraduate in an approved New York State institution
be enrolled for a least 6 but fewer than 12 semester credit hours or the equivalent
have earned 12 credits in each of two consecutive prior semesters
credits must be from a State University of New York (SUNY), a City University of New York (CUNY), or a not-for-profit institution
maintain a 2.0 (C) average and meet good academic standing requirements
not be in default on a student loan guaranteed by HESC and not be in any repayment of State awards
meet income eligibility limitations

even i chose full time on the FAFSA application, and now i dont have enough credits to be full time, the pell and tap will automacially change me to part time? and i will get part time award? how much will that be? or if i dont have enough credits to be full time, then i just loss tap???

Pell won’t change methinks. It’s based totally on EFC. But as sk8rmum said, part time TAP is not legible for freshman. Maybe you have to ask your college’s FA?

im not freshman, i already have 45 credits.
