Hi folks.
I am currently a high school student.
I love science, especially chemistry(biology also), and I am planning to go to a phramacy school in the future.
So, now, I am thinking about majoring in chemistry, then get into pharmacy school.
ok, now I have questions.
If you are a transfer students, what's the chances you'll get accepted?
Are there tests for transfer students? What factors are the most important?
Please share your ideas.
Thank you

Whats schools are you looking at?

Why are you interested in transferring when you haven’t applied as a fr yet?

I am from MA, so I am thinking about Mass College of Pharm and Health Science. First, I want to go to other college, then, get into pharm school.

I don’t know what is write to do. Of course, I have e plans, but I don’t know which will work better.

I don’t understand. Why don’t you just apply to MCPHS if you want to go into pharmacy? Transfering into schools is on average more competetive than applying as a Freshman.

Pharmacy requires a Pharm D. degree. I believe what he is saying is that he wants to do his undergrad work somewhere else. So that being said you would not be a transfer student you would be a grad school applicant. The test you have to take to get into grad school for Pharm is the PCAT. The most important factors in getting into grad school are your gpa in college and your PCAT score.

octoberbay, you mean it’s harder to get accepted as a transfer student?
I want to apply to MCPHS, but I am not sure I’ll get accepted. Well, I have good grades, my GPA is high, I have been volunteering for a long time, BUT, I live in US for 2 years, and I didin’t take all courses that I will need. Also, my SAT score is kind of low. The average score for MCPHS is 1620, and my score is 1500. So, I don’t know…

UTPG1234, I meant, that I wanted to major in chemistry instead of taking 2 years of pre-pharm in MCPHS. But how I am understanding now this does not work.

Please help me, I am not well-informed, and I’d like to get as much info as possible.
Thank you very much for your help

Yes, it is usually more difficult to be accepted as a transfer student at most colleges.

My advice to you is that if you wish to go to MCPHS, apply as a senior in high school. The worst they can do is reject you. At this point in time, you should be focused on retaking the SAT’s, maintaining your GPA, compiling a list of safety, good-bet, and reach schools, and deciding what major you will apply as. If you don’t get in as a Freshman, then you should consider looking into transfering, but at this point in time, I think it’s a potential waste of time.

Remember that with average SAT scores, 50% of the students in that class had scores lower than what is reported.

Thanks for replying, octoberbay!

mmm…
Fine, I’ll apply to MCPHS. I am so scared, since I don’t know what’s going to happen…

I took SAT second time, but I don’t know the results yet. I hope I did well.
ok, but what about the courses I hadn’t taken? Also, will I need to send my foreign school grades? (I say this, because I am attending to American school beginning from my sophomore year, and this is my second year.)

Is there any way you can sign up for them this coming year? If not, just ask your guidance counselor at your high school to write a note to stick with all your applications explaining why you never took those courses.

As for your foreign school’s grades, I would suggest contacting the colleges you wish to apply to and asking if they would like you to send them. Some may say yes, others no.

Ok, yes, sure, I’ll take them this coming year.

What you think, is the fact that I am a foreign student will impede my acceptance and will be an obstacle in getting into a college?

No, as long as you’re on the right track, the fact that you are foreign should not impede on your chances of being accepted. If anything, it might even be a bonus for you since colleges are constantly looking for ways to increase their diversity.

Yes, I know it gives some advantages.

Octoberbay, do you know anything about medicinal chemistry? Does this career give many opportunities?

Sorry, I can’t help you there. I’m an English major ;)

Alright, thanks for your help.
good luck :-)
