About GPA

Hello guys, I am new here, and I have some questions about GPA

I am from Colombia, and I am going to apply for some colleges in the US, and they ask me for my GPA of years 9,10 and 11, the SAT score and TOEFL

Well, the point is that here in Colombia, the schools qualify the students with letters and number between 0,1 and 10, just like this
0,1-5,9 = I = Bajo = Low
6,0-7,4 = B = Basico = Basic
7,5-8,9 = A = Alto = High
9,0-10 = S = Superior = Excellent

And in those years (9,10 and 11) a think that my average grades of all my subjjects are kind of 7,6/10, so like 3,8/5

But i was searching about GPA and I found that there are "Normal" courses and Honors/AP courses, the first ones are from 0 to 5, and the second ones, from 0 to 4, and I dont know which of them to take in count

Also, my in my High School transcrips appears only the letter, I, B, A or S, not the number, so I dont know how will the colleges take the letter without the number

Thank you very much and I will be waiting for you answers

In terms of how high schools in the US calculate GPA, that varies too. Some high schools are like you describe, many (most?) aren’t.

Adcoms may be familiar with how to reasonably translate Colombian grades to US grades, but most of us aren’t. Your best bet would be to do something like this I think:

If you were in the top 1/3 of the class, give yourself 4 points for that class. The next 1/3, give yourself 3 points, bottom 1/3, give yourself 2 points. Average the numbers for each class and take that as your GPA.

Others may tell you to count S as a 4, A as a 3, B as a 2, and I as a 1 or 0, but if the frequencies of those letters are different from the typical frequency in the US then it won’t make much sense.
